Yevgeny Plushenko, Russian superstar, lost the Men's Figure Skating gold to Evan Lysacek last week. He's been throwing a fit ever since, including stepping on the gold medal winner's platform during the award ceremony.

Today, he took the whining to another level, and awarded himself the platinum medal.

ETA: Since I submitted this yesterday, Plushenko has denied having anything to do with the medal. Also, I must have linked to the boring article with no comments. Total writeup fail, guys. D:

While I'm nowhere as fangirly as other people, I'd still like to have views of the whole deal that aren't either "Evan is the super greatest and ~~a Mary Sue~~ ultra perfect, but Plushenko is ~~an evil communist~~ the second coming of Satan" or "Plushenko is ~~God~~ ~~Draco In Leather Pants~~ Purrfect even when he's not and How Dare U critisize him".

Those two are *tiring*, you know. =/

Well I don't think Evan is a perfect skater, but he certainly hasn't said anything in bad taste this entire time. It's not a two sided thing, you know? It's one guy minding his own business, and the other being a poor sport.

As for Plushenko being Russian, it's not at all relevant to me. I've liked and disliked Russian skaters before, and I've liked and disliked American skaters before and so on and so forth. The only thing relevant to me is that he's a dick.
