Yo Lysacek, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish...
Yevgeny Plushenko, Russian superstar, lost the Men's Figure Skating gold to Evan Lysacek last week. He's been throwing a fit ever since, including stepping on the gold medal winner's platform during the award ceremony.

Today, he took the whining to another level, and awarded himself the platinum medal.

ETA: Since I submitted this yesterday, Plushenko has denied having anything to do with the medal. Also, I must have linked to the boring article with no comments. Total writeup fail, guys. D:

I would have been happy with either of them winning gold. That said, in the actual performances, Lysacek did beat him fair and square, with much better footwork and cleaner jumps, and a combination of jumps and choreography that was more than demanding enough to make up for the lack of a quad.

A lot of people seem to react more positively to Plushenko's showmanship -- he flirts with the audience as he skates and people like that, while Lysacek is a bit more reserved and introspective while he skates. But if showmanship were the critical point, they'd both have been trounced by Johnny Weir.

It was, essentially, a photo-finish, but in the slo-mos you can see all the things that got Plushy docked points. In a way, I almost wish the gold had gone to Plushenko just because then we wouldn't have had all this drama. Lysacek would have been every bit as ecstatic about winning silver.
