Yo Lysacek, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish...
Yevgeny Plushenko, Russian superstar, lost the Men's Figure Skating gold to Evan Lysacek last week. He's been throwing a fit ever since, including stepping on the gold medal winner's platform during the award ceremony.

Today, he took the whining to another level, and awarded himself the platinum medal.

ETA: Since I submitted this yesterday, Plushenko has denied having anything to do with the medal. Also, I must have linked to the boring article with no comments. Total writeup fail, guys. D:

I'm sorry, Plushenko, did you say something? I couldn't hear you over the sheer awesome of Virtue and Moir.

*has been a giddy ball of Canadian squee since Monday... got to see the ice dance final in person!*

Between Virtue and Moir and Davis and White, that was the most breathtaking ice dancing competition I've ever seen. Pairs got OWNED.

(I still don't know how the hell Domina and Shabalin got the bronze after those two crap performances, though. And those costumes are still giving me nightmares.)

Honestly? I think it was Championship Mystique(tm). Belbin and Agosto whipped their asses fair and square, but I don't think the judges could conceive of a podium devoid of the reigning world champions.

Utterly agreeing with the quality of the competition though. Holyshit, I can't remember an ice dancing competition that was that spellbinding...well...ever. 1988 comes close but that's about it.
