Seattle's delicate tastebuds
Seattleite [info]killthief is disappointed in Seattle's lack of chain restaurants.

[info]seattle is disappointed in her lack of taste; her appalling lack of taste.

I love chain restaurants, but Seattle has such delicious foodery that I forget that I love chain restaurants.

Holy crap, what a bunch of elitist prickery. It reminds me of the time I bemoaned the fact that there are no Red Lobster in Vancouver and got my head ripped off for it. "OMG VANCOUVER HAS GREAT SEAFOOD RESTAURANTS!" Yes, and I go to many of them. Still doesn't satisfy my specific wish for Red Lobster. :(

They... do realize that just because a city has excellent local restaurants doesn't mean it can't have chain restaurants as well, and vice versa... right? And that people can like and enjoy both? I mean, I'm the type that has lunch at little locally owned places then washes it down with a McDonald's shake... am I doing it wrong?

But...Seattle does have chains. Lots of them.

Just not THOSE chains. (I'm trying to figure out why you can't go down to Red Robin if you want something Applebees-esque, for instance.)

::wistful sigh:: Can I trade place with her? Please? Pretty please with syrup-laden processed cherries from a jar on top? Because you know that one week they did "The Daily Show" live from Columbus in 2008 or so, and their summation was pretty much "Columbus: football and chain restaurants"? Dayton's Columbus without the football.

I love how everybody is all "CHAINS ARE HORRIBLE except for these three that I really like, of course."

It's like the other night when we were going to order pizza and my father insisted that it be "good pizza", which is fine, but then sneered because I picked a chain because none of the local places that deliver to our house are actually any good. And then he complained about the price, because hey guess what, nice pizza with lots of toppings cost more than Domino's! (I was all for Domino's because you can get two medium pizzas for six dollars each right now, but it is rather inferior pizza.)

Dissent! I was with the "god, snobs much" idea, until this:

Actually no, I was being honest. I sincerely wish we had all of the above, and if some people would choose not to eat there, it would be their prerogative, but would at least give the rest of us a chance to do so if we so wished, without having to drive 15 minutes to Lynnwood, or 40 minuts south to Tacoma.

That's just fucking LAZY. That and the whole "omg, why must it be so GREEN here complaint" on the personal blog. Yeah.

She forgot about all the Subways in Seattle.

And honestly it could be worse for her, she could be living on Bainbridge Island were the only chain restaurant on the whole island is a single McDonald's. And that's only because they were able to get in before the Island decided not to let any chains set up there.

Lazy OP is lazy, but I still want to punch the "I assume you have legs and feet" person. There are lots of reasons why someone can't travel a long way to get food and prefers chains, including disability (why I can't travel a long way for food and prefer chains, yet amazingly I have legs and feet).

Y'know. I'm all for supporting local food. Hell, once I finally tried Buz and Ned's, I was a convert. But, in my experience, local food can be pricey. While I'd love to support those businesses, if I can't afford them, I have to settle for a chain or just eating at home with whatever was cheapest at the store.

And sometimes, I just have a craving for a TGI's Mojito and Potstickers. There isn't a single local place I've found (in Richmond, so flawed comparison) that makes mojitos. Or dim sum, but that's another wank for another day.

I have to wonder, though about KT saying that because of this, they're moving to Tacoma. ??? Seriously?

I thought it was absolutely precious how they compared people who hate chain restaurants to being like people who oppose gay marriage.

Wait a minute. Seattle has loads of chains.

... and as a snobby, elitist Seattleite, I do have to say that our local food is pretty excellent, but I'm not going to bear any ill will towards somebody who prefers a chain.

Someone finally decides to give him some real advice and oh, is it precious.

gldngrrl:
go to lynnwood,
[nearby suburb] it's the mecca of everything chain and big box.

killthief:
Lynnwood is crap. I lived there for a year, and I despise going there. Same with Everett. They're both crap, so I wish Seattle had all the good stuff that it doesn't, so I wouldn't have to go to the crappy 'burbs for it.

gldngrrl :
I'm not the best snarker, others here are far better than I, however-
the "good stuff" that Lynnwood has is what makes it crap. Sorry.

...sometimes I think that conservative pundits think all liberals are like these whiny people.

Even though my aunt lives there, I am NOT moving to Seattle. EVER.

I will trade. Killthief can move to this swamp with stripmalls and I will move to Seattle. Of course, killthief will have to drive at least 15 minutes to get anywhere, because that's what you have to do in the type of community that's filled with chain restaurants.
