Seattle's delicate tastebuds
Seattleite [info]killthief is disappointed in Seattle's lack of chain restaurants.

[info]seattle is disappointed in her lack of taste; her appalling lack of taste.

Seconded. I haven't read it in like three years and I'm happier that way.

OMG. Best exchange?

[blockquote][info]mr_sadhead: 161 comments and nobody (not even me) mentions that Domino's Pizza puts its money into separatist Catholic enclaves in Florida and anti-choice activism?

[info]gypsykat: That's cause only idiots like the OP even order from Domino's. Him and poor college students who tend to put price above conscience when they're ordering pizza drunk/stoned (cause didn't we all do that at one point or another?).

[info]killthief: I'm a her, not a him, and I don't care, I just want fucking pizza. Jesus christ!

[info]mr_sadhead: Well, if you order from Domino's, you're getting a fucking Jesus Christ pizza ..
Here's the latest news from Ave Maria University, the militant Catholic university the Domino's founder is funding: women cannot wear pants.
http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/news/specials/weirdflorida/blog/2010/03/ave_maria_university_no_pants_1.html

[info]killthief:I don't care. I like their pizza and if I want it delivered, I should be able to do so in a city over 600,000 people large, like most all other cities. But nooooo

[info]rocketgeek: You can get pizza delivered. Good pizza. You may, sadly, have trouble getting shit pizza delivered.[/blockquote]

In conclusion, [info]killthief does not care about the religious politics of pizza. She'd just like some shit pizza.

I am being incredibly dim here but...that says the retired founder of Domino's gives money to these places. Not Domino's the company. Of course, I have no idea how much control he still has over the running and stuff so...I don't actually know what I was going to go with that, because damnit, I want pizza now and I can't have any (or anything else chewable) for at least another week or so.

(Also, when I had Domino's pizza (in the UK) for the first time, I thought it was good. Damn the north of The Netherlands for not having proper pizza places. I know better now. :) )

When he was running the company, the company itself gave money to all the weird ultra-Catholic stuff. I do not know if that continues or not; I live somewhere where you can get really good pizza, so Domino's is completely hypothetical to me.

Huh... I'm mainly seeing stuff about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and NASCAR with regards to what they contribute to now, but now I'm suspicious and I'm not totally sure how to even research this kind of thing other than googling domino's+charity. :|

They seem to be a publicly traded company, though, so it's probably a matter of public record somewhere....

I also am not all that fond of chain restaurants either. I have, at times, joked with my friends in various ways about major chain restaurants here in New York. I too am one of those people who embraces local places and mom-and-pop places.

However, I would not scoff at someone who stated that they liked a chain restaurant - even if one of my friends suddenly said, "actually, cut it out with the jokes, because I do like Red Lobster" or whatever, because -- I may be a stubborn foodie, but I also was taught to have manners.

It's kind of a moot point anyway, because I'm usually too broke to eat out and cook for myself 99% of the time.

It's like the thing with the faires, except with elitism.

Everytime I read posts like that, I'm tempted to drive two miles out of my way to go to McDonald's, just because I imagine someone, somewhere having an migraine out of pure hipster outrage.
