Seattle's delicate tastebuds
Seattleite [info]killthief is disappointed in Seattle's lack of chain restaurants.

[info]seattle is disappointed in her lack of taste; her appalling lack of taste.

I love how everybody is all "CHAINS ARE HORRIBLE except for these three that I really like, of course."

It's like the other night when we were going to order pizza and my father insisted that it be "good pizza", which is fine, but then sneered because I picked a chain because none of the local places that deliver to our house are actually any good. And then he complained about the price, because hey guess what, nice pizza with lots of toppings cost more than Domino's! (I was all for Domino's because you can get two medium pizzas for six dollars each right now, but it is rather inferior pizza.)

They've been pushing Dominos in Australia for the last few years and it just makes me ill, like I've eaten 2 Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Is this just me or does it happen to anyone else?

I don't know - I know it tastes different in other countries, having experienced it in the UK, but it's never made me feel ill from eating a normal amount, just mildly disgusted with myself because it is crappy pizza. We really only order it because it is considerably cheaper than any of the other places that will deliver to our house (and by "we" I mean "me and my brother" - if our parents are at all involved Domino's is vetoed for being crap, though if one of us orders and pays, they'll still steal slices).

The bread bowl pastas make me feel a little ill, though.

I prefer Eagle Boys for pizza if I'm going with a chain, but I have this terrible weakness for their pasta marinara and chocolate lava cakes - perhaps because when my fiancee and I first started dating, if we were having a night in and just wanted to get cheap takeaway, we'd get the marinara and chocolate lava cakes because we both like seafood and chocolate cake. :P

As for their pizza making me ill, I do sometimes feel like it's a little too much grease and not enough body to back it up, so I kind of know what you're talking about?

Me too. They basically bathe it in grease and use ingredients which I think they import from SPACE; there's a perfectly good Actual Italian Pizza place who deliver in my area so we've never bothered. FRESH ARTICHOKES. Fuck yeah.

I decided back when I was a political teen that I'd never eat Domino's because they gave so much cash to pro-life groups. And then I realized that I'd lucked out, because their pizza sucks.

Yeah...I am really not a food snob, hell, I willingly eat sold-by-the-slice convenience store pizza occasionally, but Domino's is just bad. XP

Yeah, me too. I don't even give them a moment's thought when I'm counting options. They are unpizzas.

They re-did the recipe and it sucks less. I'm not terribly fond of ordering from them, for political reasons, but they're what I can afford right now. The only reason we had nice pizza was because Dad was paying.

At the moment in my area, Pizza Hut is desperate, and doing the any pizza $10 thing. If you've got one nearby, you might try it, because I really like their pizza, and their wings aren't bad either (but are not on sale).

There's only one, and I'm not a huge fan. (It also turned out that with the delivery fee we got two mediums from Domino's versus one large from Pizza Hut, which meant less fighting over toppings.)

I can't get Pizza Hut. They do not deliver to my apartment on a major road by a major highway. I called four different stores on day. I have a choice of Papa John's or Dominos.

I haven't had pizza delivered in almost two months.

Pizza Hut is worse. Their crust is like eating lard.

It's so true. I grew up near a couple of really great pizza places, so my first experience with Pizza Hut was in an airport when I was nine or ten. It was a little shocking.

OH ugh, and the airport stuff is worse.

It's still better than what my school cafeteria passed off as pizza, and may actually contain vegetables, unlike similarly-priced airport options, so I often end up getting it anyway in that situation.
