Your Button Is Bad and You Should Feel Bad
AdBlock for Chrome updated recently. Among other changes, there is now an AdBlock button that sits in the extension bar and can't be disabled. This is the button that ends the universe.

The extension's author blames the inability to disable the button on Chrome's developers, links to a bug report and encourages users to upvote it, and posts instructions for hiding the button. Alas, the instructions just shorten the extension button space and cause expansion arrows to appear, which people hate almost as much as they hate the button. Most commenters also have great difficulty understanding the instructions in the first place.

Cue 300+ comments of seething button-rage.

I can't link to individual comments, but highlights include the straightforward:

Noooo! I don't want button!!!

The aesthetically affronted:

This is a useful extension, but I've had to disable it because the large, bright red button destroys the look of my toolbar.

It was functioning fine for months without a giant red stop sign smacking me in the periphery of my vision.

The scatological:

crap button ,,ur brain is full of semen??

Asking to drag a button to the right to hide it is like saying if you don't like a pile of poo in the middle of your room just put a rug over it.

The baffling:

Thanks but your acting like google on youtube

And occasionally the defensive:

Adblock can put a button on my bloody forehead if it wants to, it's that important.

For reference, the button itself looks like this. There's also some bonus wanking about AdBlock now requiring access to your browsing history.

I'll admit I can be similarly fussy over "minor" changes to look-and-feel, so I can't mock.

... wow.

I just installed the update and got on with my evening. Am I doing something wrong? I feel like I must be doing something wrong now.

If it helps my response was 'there's a button'?

I had no idea it was even there.

Same here. I didn't even notice the button till I saw this. I've already got a few buttons hanging out up there. It just blended in.

Sweet, I didn't even know Chrome had a version of adblock, I was using adtwart and it kinda sucks.

That was what originally turned me off Chrome - the lack of any good javascript and ad site whitelisting. Glad to see that's been fixed :)

It's got an ljlogin clone now, too. Just in case anyone out there didn't know this already.

That's it? Seriously? I haven't seen so much rage of so little in a long time.

...I mean, really? That little button is causing all this. This has to be a joke.

I'm still not over it. I continue to be baffled.

Is this real life? Is this just fantasy?

Okay, I'm done, I promise.

Yeah, that's a totally reasonable analogy.

It took me twenty minutes to get the damn thing to show up in the first place, why would I want to make it go away?

(Would really like Chrome to be a teeny bit less helpful about hiding things)

W-what

It's a LITTLE RED BUTTON. I didn't even notice it was THERE after a few minutes. :P Are these people for real?!

(That does explain why Adblock stopped blocking ads on TVTropes for me, though, if they were updating.)

Oh, how long can our trusty Chrome Cadets hold out? How can they possibly resist the diabolical urge to push the button that could erase their very existence? Will their tortured minds give in to their uncontrollable desires? Can they withstand the temptation to push the button, that even now, beckons them ever closer? Will they succumb to the maddening urge to eradicate history, at the mere! push! of a single! button!? The beautiful SHINY button! The jolly, CANDY-LIKE button!

Will they hold out, folks? Can they hold out!?!?!???!?!!!?

...excuse me

What, the actualization of Adblock for Chrome finally puts a button? Because last time I saw, there was a independent extension solely for adding the AdBlock button.
Daaamn, some people don't know which noose use for hanging themselves.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I have AdBlock installed in my Chrome, and it's definitely there as an option when I right-click, but there's not any button in the toolbar. There's one for Web of Trust, though.
