I've seen it too, and I don't get how it even makes *sense*. It's not like yarn wank - the yarn costs the same regardless of the craft (though it may take more or less), hooks and needles are similar prices, the rest of the supplies are pretty much the same, and since lots of current knitters and crocheters learned out of books or even online, there aren't even as many regional variants in style or process to mark people. I do both - I knit primarily now because I like the fabric it creates better for most projects, but they both have their uses. Sometimes I even combine them, shhh!
