AnNaNoWaRe (Annual NaNo Wank Report)
It's been a relatively quiet month. Alan Holman has made his triumphant and frequently suppressed return as the user TrutherWriter, whose novel synopsis includes such gems as:

Tim is real, but Israel is a CIA/MOSSAD creation. Black helecoptors, paranoid dreams ... 9/11 was an inside job -- you know it, you feel it, you pump your fist, you're a champion of the truth! Vaccines cause autism whether Tim's teacher thinks different. Why the hell do the girls that chase Tim so violently get a couch in their bathrooms while non-violent Tim gets a not-chocolate surprise that takes some time to wash out the stink!

His regular posts don't make much more sense either, but sadly I cannot link to any of them as they've all been suppressed for being abusive towards others or using profanity.

But I know what you really want, OTFers; news on the infamous marienbadmylove. What's this? you ask. Surely he was banned last year for plagiarism? Well, apparently being banned twice didn't stop Alan Holman, and being banned a mere once hasn't stopped Mark Leach, whose surname is (almost) quite apropos. Thus far his one and only post is in the Extreme Accomplishments Shoutout thread, as follows:

Success! I just crossed the 500,000-word mark with “A Canadian Marienbad,” my Nano entry and literary tribute to the people of Canada. I created the manuscript over a couple of hours by using a do-it-yourself novel kit I read about in the letters section of the infamous Laura Miller story on Salon.com. Starting with the basic 50,000-word template, I repeatedly pressed the copy and paste button in order to push the manuscript past one million words. Then I used my computer’s find and replace editing functions to customize the text with Canadian concepts and themes, turning it into my own story. By the end of the month I expect to expand my manuscript to five million words. Shouldn’t be too hard. After all, it’s just a matter of repeatedly pressing CTRL-V, then adding in my own ideas. But I will need to be careful not to strain my index finger!

Well, at least we assume it's the same author. He's posting under the name bccomox, also on LiveJournal, and so far this is his only post. Time will tell if there is more wank yet to be mined from this source.

The prize for NaNoWanker of the Year, however, undoubtedly goes to Laura Miller, whose article on Salon.com, Better yet, DON'T write that novel drew the ire of a multitude of NaNo participants, who didn't appreciate being told their work was a waste of time, nor the implication that because they were writers, not readers, they were doing the publishing world a disservice. Word of advice to Ms. Miller: writers fairly often also happen to be readers. They also happen to be capable of reading your ill-informed article and taking umbrage.

It just makes this wanka wonder where Miller thinks professional writers come from. Here's a hint: they do not spring fully formed from the forehead of some fantastic literary deity. They start out small and end up big. And for some of them, that start is NaNoWriMo.

Re: Miller: SOMEBODY is jellus! \o/ My fanfic beta loves that I'm doing NaNo because she loves reading my work, and she doesn't care if it's fanfic or original fic because she's just a fan of my writing (as well as being an awesome friend). That's all the motivation I need, so Miller can kiss off. I'd like to see this Miller person tell Sara Gruen that NaNo is a waste of time!

So, how's everyone doing in NaNo anyway? I'm actually ahead of schedule! I should be hitting 30,000 words here in the next day or so!

I went to bed last night at 35,100. Gonna try to finish 50k this week and then finish the story before Thanksgiving. Good luck!

I have at least an audience of one as well. Possibly two, though the new friend has to wait until I'm done, so there.

30K at the moment. I tend to let things go during the weekends, so I have to push during the week when the kids are at school. As I note elsewhere, there are so many benefits to actually having a clue where you're going.

I am woefully behind. I went in without a plan, and it's not working well at all.

I wanted to be at 30K by today but fell short of that goal and only have 27K. I feel so lame since most people I see giving their word count are always well ahead of mine.

I will join you in the 27k holding position. I'm being conservative and aiming for 29k tonight rather than 30k.

My NaNo is off the cuff basically, and not having a plan makes those large word count days rather rare.

Ahead of schedule, thanks to a day of knockout noveling this past Saturday. I'm at 40K. Although I should probably do some more noveling today since I let my wrists rest yesterday.

Word-count wise I'm a little over 25,000 as of last night. Story wise I'm stuck. I didn't do enough planning this year and ended up writing whatever comes into my head. So now I have three completely different stories going plus whatever suicidal rants* cross my brain.

Compared to last year I'm doing great. And I won last year.

*A. Not kidding. B. But they seemed to be triggered by Dayquil omg. I am never taking Dayquil again.

Gah. Dayquil and its evil sibling Nyquil are evile. Hated the latter as a kid.

Well, if nothing else, you might have some ideas to revamp next story you write. (I won't say next year, since one doesn't have to do it just in November.)

I seem to be okay with Nyquil, but there's something about non-drowsy formulas... non-drowsy dramamine makes me homicidal.

I've given up on the first two stories, hopefully the third with it's simpler plot will be easier.

Ah. Yeah. Avoid the non-drowsy stuff. Please? Don't wanna see you on the evening news.

I hope the third story is working for you. I think I'd prefer a not winning but good solid story to rework to the one I had two years ago. It won, but it only got about half-way thru the plot and faltered in the middle into a mess of 'Where the hell was I going with this, again?'

I officially abandoned the novel day before yesterday at 16,254 words, but I'm still happy with my NaNo experience this year. There were about five thousand reasons I had decided I wasn't going to do it at all this year, but at the last minute I thought that most of those reasons were also good ones for at least trying. I'm glad I started it and that I got as far as I did, so all in all it will still been a good NaNo year even though I don't plan to finish.

I gave up before starting, and, as always, I completely forgot about WriSoMiFu until after it closed.

I had a really shitty end-of-October and beginning-of-November brainwise and I decided that trying to do NaNo (which really stresses me out anyway) would be very bad for my particular brand of crazy.

But! I'm working on my NaKniSweMo sweater diligently and I'm almost done, well ahead of time. Woohoo!

I'm at 25,015, though there's no telling if I'll actually finish this year. I have crap-tons of crafts and other stuff to do this year and I'm hoping if I bust hump, I can be in the clear the day before Turkey Day. It helps only a little that I'm skipping around the plot rampantly, because I'm not always sure where or how the scenes will link up.

I was doing well the first, um, three days.

Then I went off into a cul de sac of wtfery and um trying to find my way out. Slowly. Ugh.

I gave up after two days and have instead written over 20k words of Inception and Samurai 7 fanfic. I am failing NaNo, but have actually got back into fandom. Yay.
