I'm so angry I'm gonna do my job! Maybe.
This is pretty contained, because the person doing it (wisely?) cut off all modes of response from anyone. I'm not a community member, I had enough of French back when I was in immersion school.

This is kind of a what not to do if you fuck up modding so much people decide to report you delinquent.

MAINTAINER NOTICE: Je suis très désolé
From the 15th of October to Halloween I was on the road. You will note that is a two-week period.

Week 1, I was in rural southwest Louisiana with no Internet connection. I could sometimes get on Facebook with my smartphone, when I could pick up a cell signal at all. Yes, there are still areas of the United States where that is the case, so you in the back with the smart mouth, shut up.

Week 2, I was down with a nasty cold from which, it would seem, I am still recovering. In fact I'm about ready to go to the doctor to see if I'm one of those unfortunate victims of the pertussis epidemic, despite having gotten a booster late September or early October, if I have another coughing fit after I go to bed tonight. In any case, all I could do was sit around the house of the people I was visiting and swear frequently and at length because my computer kept dropping its Internet connection.

I remember getting ONE EMAIL about a troll in some community or other that I maintain, and I think it was this one. ONE EMAIL. I said to myself, "I'll take care of it when I get a better connection."

Then I forgot.

I mean, it's not like anything was going on or anything.

Just the same, I apologize for forgetting. I am usually a lot better about responding when I get reports, even if they are through unusual channels. If there are any old-timers left here, ask them--we don't get a lot of crap here in the first place, but when we get it, and I see or hear about it, I deal with it. I dropped the ball this time and I feel really stupid about that.

Nevertheless...

Got the email from LJ Abuse within the past couple hours or so. Yes, I am continuing maintainership. Yes, I let them know of that fact. And I am continuing out of pure spite at this point.

And I will give you two guesses why that is.

First guess: Go to the community profile page and read every word there.

Second guess: Go to my LJ and read the one post that is available there. Then check to see if you have the ability to comment. Don't actually do it, because I will report you for spam--just check.

Now, I trust, you get it.

I'm supremely aggravated right now and will express my feelings no further than that, because this post is drama-mongering enough. Allow me to apologize again for that.

But I won't apologize for being supremely aggravated.

And if you're smart, you folks who ran crying to LJ Abuse won't apologize either. You will instead act as if absolutely nothing has happened, and next time we get a troll, you will follow community procedure for reporting them. And I will get more than one report on the same troll from individuals with an innate sense of responsibility towards a community from which they have derived considerable benefit at no expense whatsoever.

I don't tolerate parasites. You shouldn't either.

Kind of reasonable. I mean, she was just gone two weeks! That's no reason to report someone to lj abus--- hey, why is her community full of spam posts that are still up? Here's one. Everytime you see that icon, do not click any of the links.

So, I go to look at her journal like she suggested. I'm obedient like that.

Previously I had a notice here about being willing to hand over my communities to anyone who wanted to run them.

I now rescind that notice.

I take great offense at being reported to LJ Abuse for the actions of another person which I neither approved nor condoned. There are procedures in place for reporting a troll if that's what needs to be done. Anyone who can take thirty seconds of their busy day to post in one of my communities can take thirty damn more seconds and read the community info page. All LJ communities have rules, spoken or unspoken. Mine are no exception, and my rules are very clearly spelled out. Your inability to follow those rules has nada to do with my ability to maintain my communities fairly.

The reason I am not signing over any of my communities is I don't know who reported me. I do know it was multiple people. I was on vacation the latter half of October in the Deep South for two weeks, one in which I had no Internet connectivity at all and the other in which I had barely any, and not much ability to do my maintainer duties. I don't feel a need to notify my communities every time I have a shit. You guys so rarely suffer problems with trolls that you ever bother telling me about so I don't worry about it most of the time. So to have multiple people go tattling on me like a bunch of little kids was well beyond the pale.

That's why you're stuck with me. Sucks to be you. All you had to do was follow procedure and report the troll and we wouldn't have come to this pass.

Even the one person who emailed me--ONE PERSON--did not follow procedure. The reason this is a PROBLEM is that I get a lot of spam in my email, it's an older address and I've signed up for way too many lists and what-not over the years and had it traded around as a result. Those of you who are older than, say, five, ought to know what I'm talking about. (OK, maybe not. I just asked my six-year-old, and she looked at me like I was nuts. Just kidding. I'm exaggerating slightly.) THAT is why I want people reported through COMMENTS. Because it is VERY EASY for me to go back, look at the post and see the comments. WHY IS THIS SO FUCKING HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

Do you get it now? You better, because I've had to delete two emails since I posted up what I did in [info]learn_french and the only reason those people are not banned is I didn't feel arsed to go into community settings just now. Besides, it might have been nice emails. I realize I'm being way too generous here, I know LJers too damn well to really believe that.

They're the only ones who get the free ride. And being that LJ Abuse is so nicely responsive now--kudos to them, this has got to be a first--I will be ecstatic to report anyone else who harasses me. (Sep note: Italics hers)

Stick to protocol. Do what I ask of you. I have good reasons for asking. Like it or not, sometimes there are rules in life and you have to follow them. If you can't cope with that in a community that nobody made you join, I shudder to think how the rest of your life is going to go.

Okay. So. Let's review her modding.

1. Spam-filled community. Date checking reveals that spam pre-dates her vacation.
2. Angry screed about spiting the haters, along with rule reminder that amounts to: "I was unreachable. WHY DIDN'T YOU CONTACT ME?"
3. Cuts off all modes of communication (do not comment to her journal if you can, she will report you for spam, emails sent are deleted without reading)
4. This is just a rumour, but apparently she feasts on the flesh of newly born infant boys? Take what you will from that.

What confuses me about all this is, isn't French the language of love? Why all this anger? All this... hurt?

EDIT: Breaking news from our reporter julian_black. Apparently she has a history, featuring such accomplishments as a Ginmar/Atanielle defending anti-fandom_wank community, as well as an intriguing theory as to why learn_french is full of spam:

She does not, in fact, speak French and has not realized the truth of those posts. Quelle surprise. Sorry, it was a bit of a surprise, I just wanted to toss some French in there. Spirit of things.

Plus, the origins of Rule Number 4, to whit: What happens in Learn_French, stays in Learn_French/Don't you mention our fuckups anywhere.

Don't bother contacting me to ask why [info]learn_french is gone. I'll offer a brief explanation and that's all you're getting:

1. Assholes running crying to LJ Abuse about me not being a good maintainer because after six years of 90 percent good community experience on your part and 9 percent troll-stomping on my part, I didn't respond quickly enough for your tastes for the 1 percent trolling I missed.

The sad part is, I believe I am overestimating the amount of troll-stomping I had to do.

2. My email acting up when I tried to notify LJ Abuse that I wanted to keep LF. I feared that if my email continued to be delayed that they'd just hand it over to one of the aforementioned assholes. I am a strong believer in NOT rewarding assholery. I don't know what Multiple Whoevers' problems were with me and I don't want to know.

They didn't get what they wanted.

Unfortunately over 1000 other people got punished along with them.

And you know what? It is not like I was getting paid for the job. I wonder how many of you have a 90 percent success rate, or better, at your jobs where you do get paid.

Something to think about as you're submitting me to the latest popular mock-the-drama community. Then again, likely most of you aren't employed after all, which is why you're there to begin with.

Note: If it starts in the other communities I maintain, they will go away too. I won't even wait to hear from LJ Abuse. Guess what? Life's not fair. At least you're not Haitian.

So, both messages that I sent to LJ Abuse about [info]learn_french were returned to me a couple days ago, undelivered. I wonder what the point is of them asking you for a reply when your reply won't go through in the first place. Sad part is, I sent 'em from the email account I've been using with LJ for years and years. Not like I was a stranger, as it were. (Hyperbolically speaking.)

Amazing how shit works when somebody wants to gang up on me but not when I want to stand up for myself... ain't that always the way?

FWIW, just a followup and all that. If you need a LJ community to teach you a foreign language, anyway, you got bigger problems than whether I'm a drama queen.
