In my anthro classes (albeit, mostly limited to intro and a few linguistics classes), we did play with statistics a bit, but I was thinking more of how sociologists study patterns and try to extract information from the pattern data. The sociologist I know does that, and also the classes she teaches are about race & ethnicity and I think women in the media? something about how women/feminism is portrayed in the culture at large.

I was applying that idea, of seeing patterns and attempting to extract information from them to what I understand some of the anthropological fields to do. It's a little bit sciencey, a little bit the fuzzy stuff we did studying literature. Either way, I figure anthropological fields cover a spectrum.
