I don't remember if it was also brand names but Meg Cabot is pretty notorious about pop culture references that get dated before the books are even published. (Plus they making no sense in the book series' timeline, like the Princess Diaries books that in real time would have been 2000-2004, yet the timeline lasts the 9 years it took the publish the series.)
