Apparently it was and excuse to give people a chance to vote for a new boyfriend for Barbie. But looking around a little more it turns out I'm a little out of date and they announced that Barbie and Ken are trying to reconcile and relaunched him back in 2009 (I'm gonna assume it was in anticipation of Toy Story 3).

I never realized that Barbie had a storyline outside of whatever kids came up with for her before.
