Its the multiple community, sockpuppets are like, the point
Do you know about multiples/plurals? They are a group of people, or perhaps a group of groups of people who believe that they have many minds or souls sharing one body. But don't say they have DID, or mention alters, this is "healthy" [info]multiplicity! The kind that basically comes from spending too much time role-playing.

Now days, the multiple community keeps most of its drama behind closed doors. Drama that usually has to with the people who don't have Sephiroth in their system looking down on those who do, or incessant bitching about who is just pretending, and who actually needs to get some psych help because they really aren't pretending, while the rest of the community is probably only pretending to not be pretending. Its a big old pretend-fest.

But yesterday, some wanker decided to air their wank in public for all to see! They created a journal where all multiples could post anonymously and bitch about the other multiples they hated.

And thus, Pluralanon was born! 100+ comments of bitching, backstabbing and circlejerk.

Its especially funny when the uninivated rest of the community shows up.

And its entirely possible that there were only 2 real live participants, with the rest of them being imaginary!

ETA: Original thread is now deleted, but they are back in a new one in Glorious Technicolor.

Hahaha.

When I started university, I met a lady(? I think, I'm not sure how she identifies now) who was a member of [info]multiplicity, I think! Or another one. It was amazing. She was a reincarnated Alexander the Great (and how many of those do you think there are out there?) and some Greek god and also a blue creature, I forget what. I used to think she was batshit, but she was nice to me and we otherwise had similar interests, so I played along. But omg, the things she would say.

I checked out the comm when I saw it on her userprofile, and then I had to back away from it. I haven't gone back since, and I was a little bit relieved when our paths split after a year or two and I stopped encountering her on campus... So much crazy. Nice person, but crazy and lots of drama.

and also a blue creature

Was Vaporeon on her list of possibilities?

Alas, no. She was into Final Fantasy, not Pokemon. Also an anime which I'm forgetting, damn. This was back in 2003-2005, so.

I think the blue creature was some kind of alien. I just remember it was blue, because she used to dye her hair blue and call herself Blue because of it.

She actually looked down (!) on people with multiple/soul-bonds of completely fictional things from popular media, calling them posers and shit (and yet...her Greek god and Alexander...)

Zhaan, maybe? From Farscape? She was blue, and was sometimes called "Blue" as a nickname.

Of course, Zhaan was bald...

Ever notice that nobody is ever the reincarnation of anyone who isn't famous? Statistically, you'd expect that the vast majority of past lives would be peasants of various sorts/eras.

I know! I actually asked her about that, like "why Alexander and not one of his soldiers or something?" and she'd start pointing out all their similarities and whatnot that of course were because they're the same soul (I'd list them, but that would make her too recognizable). Plus, apparently her lineage has lots of shamans, so it's only natural that she'd be an otherkinmultiplesoulbonder person herself.

That's actually sort of an irritating fallacy. Plenty of people who do past life regressions find lives where they were no one of any particular note, self included. The problem is the "I was Cleopatra/King Arthur" crowd tends to be louder, for obvious reasons.

*wipes up*

I've done the past lives regression thing once as a mid-teen, and I was like a little sister to my godmom (long story). And she's statistically been nuns, or women of religion that didn't like being around men.

I don't think I've ever been anyone important.

That has been around for a very long time, and was popularized during the spiritualist movement. I just recently read a book that was written in the 1930's that had a character gushing about how she had been Nefertiti in a former life. So I doubt it's going to die out soon. On a side note, I remember a character in another book say he was tired of meeting Egyptian queens and famous generals, and just once would like to meet someone who had been a scullery maid who died of typhoid in a former life.

For myself, I've never had done any sort of regressions, but I did have one dream when I was a teenager that was so clear and vivid that it makes me go, "Hmmm." I was wearing the sort of pillbox-hat-and-gloves outfit that was fashionable in the early 60's (which was when I was conceived and born), and I was in a sort of gift shop at an airfield or bus station. I remember the windows of the shop faced on to a large open outdoor area, so I'm leaning towards airfield.

I was a woman who was running from her husband, who was tied in with crime or corruption in some way. I just wanted to get away from him, but knew he'd be afraid I would go to the police. I had wandered into a quiet corner of the shop, and heard my name called (it was clear in the dream, but I couldn't remember it when I woke). I turned and saw my husband there, and as he shot me my last thought was astonishment that he had done it himself rather than send one of his goons.

I've told that story to friends, and they've joked that is probably why I wound up in law enforcement.

Legit DID/pluralism/multiplicity has nothing to do with aping historical domain characters, interestingly; I think the "soulbonding" crowd (a whole different kettle of crazy that has nothing to do with DID) has aped the multiplicity terms from the psych domain and conflated the two. A friend of mine came out as multiple and I've read up on the subject -- controversial as the diagnosis may be and leaving aside questions of "oh it's all contagion," actual accounts and case studies say nothing about "I woke up one morning and realised I was also Alex the Great."

I totally agree.

Dude, if I had any past lives, well, it just reminds me of this Vienna Teng song, In Another Life:

n another life
You and I worked West Virginia coal mines
Side by side
Collecting the black dust like sin
The day the main shaft caved in
I caught your eye
As the lantern light guttered out
And the afterdamp swallowed us slowly
I gripped your hand
And caught a glance
Of the next time 'round

In another life
You and I were Red Guards in training
Side by side
We marched on Tiananmen
Turned our own parents in
For hoarding rice
And in the Great Leap forward
We crawled on our bellies and died
A blood orange sky
Gave a cry
Of next time 'round

In another life
I was married at thirteen
You were killed at twenty-one
On a minor battlefield
I was buried beside my second stillborn child
My last thought it seemed
A fever dream

Now we sink into a summer afternoon
Central Park in June
Marveling at the bounty our days contain
And we feel it like the shiver
Of a passing train
That other life
Deep underground
You and I
Side by side
We are the next time 'round

Although it doesn't involve a romantic pairing, another beautiful song on the topic of adventurous past lives is worth sharing:: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VST2KKIYn50

The lyrics, for those not in a position to listen:

WILLIE NELSON:
I was a highwayman; along the coach roads I did ride,
With sword and pistol by my side;
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade,
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade,
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five--
But I am still alive.

KRIS KRISTOFFERSON:
I was a sailor; I was born upon the tide,
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico;
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow,
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed--
But I am living still.

WAYLON JENNINGS:
I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide,
Where steel and water did collide,
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado;
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below.
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound--
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and
around and around...

JOHNNY CASH:
I fly a starship across the Universe divide,
And when I reach the other side,
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can;
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again,
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain--
But I will remain...
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

--"The Highwayman" by Jimmy Webb; covered in 1984 by the Highwaymen.

I'm not currently convinced by any evidence for reincarnation, but apparently when I was a little kid, I went through a phase of telling people that before I was born, I used to be a linesman—as in a powerline technician. Go figure.

There was a book written by a psychiatrist about the past-life regression he did with a patient, and all those "lives" were totally mundane (sometimes tragic or traumatizing), anonymous people like you'd expect to see in the majority of the population. (I dunno, your comment just made me think of it.)
