OMG! Teh gay is here! Women, beware!
Maybe I should start watching the LiveJournal community [info]christianity again (even though I could only tolerate briefly when I joined ages ago because of the idiots on both sides of the theological line) because it's a hothouse for wank right now.

I just wanted to point y'all's attention to this one post, a real gem by chirogrl, because she -- however unintentionally -- brings TEH FUNNEH!

"But...! If we let men marry other men, women will become obsolete! If they can have each other, why would they want us?"

She brings teh funneh all by herself, even without all the inevitable splurting in the comments. The "points" she sums up her arguments with for reasons not to support gay marriage had me choking on my precioussss coffee:

1. Heterosexual marriage will be weakened.
2. The birth rate will decline.
3. The status of women as mothers will further erode.
4. Young boys will be a much greater target of erotic attention of older males.

Snark on, my fellow JFers. Snark on.

That was the first thought that hit my brain (and broke it) The next related to how if gay marriages were legal, it's like she thinks give all the guys enough time and they'd all turn to the Power of the Buttsex.

Y'know, S*P's Davan's had several girlfriends who went lesbian after dating him.

I wonder if this girl's had guys turn gay after spending time with her. ^_^

If men can marry men, and they are happy doing that, then where is the need for women in society.

Wow, I mean, wow... That is a bizzare thought pattern. I wonder if it's even worth pointing that many, many men won't go for the buttsex even if they could marry other men, and that women will be needed to do things like 'have children' which I don't think men have mastered yet.

[Sadly this makes me think of the Earthian manga where same sex relationships were forbidden because if they weren't all the guys would go for each other.]

That's really frightening and very depressing. Can there really be that many women who still think that their only value to society is the one that men assign to them?

That makes me feel ill.

I love it. Especially the part about making short people tall. I wish tallness was contagious - if it were, I'd have grown several more inches than five-foot-nuthin'. ^_^

I wish I had saved this comment I once ran across while reading a youth pastors' forum (for research purposes, honest!) asking why, if gay marriages were legal, this individual should have spent so many years "bothering" to be faithful to his wife.

I'm still not sure if he was postulating that marriage would be rendered meaningless or if he was confessing to being a giant screaming closet case, but no one else on the forum seemed to see anything weird about the remark. And several agreed with it.

It gave me a very similar flavor of WTF? to this.

You know, if all men were secretly more interested in each other than in we women, I think there wold be less of a taboo on male homosexuality in the first place. Yaknow, since they were the major figures for most of history. And there would be less lesbian porn.

Is anyone else getting a vibe that she's like, "OMG, if men can marry each other, who'll marry me?" If you think the only way you're getting married is if it's to a repressed gay guy, you've probably got some bigger problems.

He writes about the Etoro tribe in Papua New Guinea, where homosexuality has been channeled into a social system. But what kind of social system? He writes:
"For the Etoro, it is one that radically discounts the value of women as mothers and wives. Etoro men defer marriage as long as possible and, when they do marry, are concerned mostly with the advantages to be gained from re-inforced links with their male in-laws. The Etoro, as it happens, put significant obstacles in the way of heterosexual behavior. Husband and wife, for example, are permitted to have sexual relations only outside the communal household and only under conditions that rule out about two-thirds of the calendar year. The birth rate, unsurprisingly, is very low.

The Etoro and similar societies do illustrate something about the logic of homosexual male relations in human societies. When such relations are subject to cultural elaboration they almost always fit into a pattern of initiation into secrets, male exclusivity, and a low status for women.

Yes. Just like the status for women was so low in ancient Sparta.

Can't... rip... myself... away... from... the... fundie... wank... send... help...

But look, I found someone who is logically consistent!

"I think the crux of the issue is that gay marriages are not Biblical, marriage is a union of man and woman before God. Personally I don't think non-believers should get married either, tbh, they should have civil unions or somesuch (clinical name to match the clinical procedure)."

Still obnoxious, but at least it all follows from the idea of 'marriage as sacrament', rather than being a hodgepodge of received wisdom and an 'eeew' reaction to teh buttsex.

Actually, what is tragic about that post is the attitude she has about herself and other women. Does she really believe that women are so unnecessary, so superfluous, so ephermeral that a man can't love a woman by choice? Or that a woman can't love another woman?

Or is she saying that the only possible use for women in a society is as childbearers and -raisers?

Really, this is dipshit stupid: I think the crux of the issue is that gay marriages are not Biblical, marriage is a union of man and woman before God. Personally I don't think non-believers should get married either, tbh, they should have civil unions or somesuch (clinical name to match the clinical procedure)

So, what she's saying is that all those other cultures who had never even heard of Christianity weren't practicing forms of marriage long before Christianity? I am so amused by this fucktard I can't even be bothered to make a sensible statement. This person is a moron. Soon she'll be claiming that Christians came up with that "not killing" rule all by themselves.
