I've only just started as an LIS student and have not done any kind of reader advisory stuff yet, but...yeah, my first thought was "wow, if being a librarian means I have to rec things I think are badly written, I must be going into the wrong field after all!"

There's a big difference between "not endorsing it personally" and "denying access." I never fail to be amazed at the number of people in the world who apparently don't recognize that.
