I do believe you and I have the same gentleman in mind.
(To be fair, I've also met people there who could've sold me--or at least persuaded me to suspend disbelief--on the likes of the dragon-teardrop ring and a Rottweiler named Lucy Fur, but the late Dave Alway and the guy (whose name is eluding me) who runs the oral storytelling panels actually seem to have gone to the trouble of perfecting their narrative craft.)
