I'm thinking they're seeing "ooh fun trickster god" and not "rapist and murderer." Which, that's fine, ideas about deities evolve. Most Jewish people these days are anti-slavery, and they likely wouldn't murder every man, woman, child, and cow of a people they were at war with, and most of them are fine with wearing mixed-fiber clothing.

What gets really silly to me is when someone comes in and says "traditionally this is how the old Norse worshiped so it's how we should too!" I have to wonder where they got their ideas of the old Norse. They were those people who raped and enslaved and pillaged Western Europe so much, they greatly contributed to it being a total mess for centuries, because no one could settle down and creste stable communities because they were being raped and enslaved and pillaged.

Though I bet they'd love a good strawberry shortcake.
