Because if so, I'm completely up for an epic baking spree of sacrificial cakes to ~~share around~~ sacrifice in his name.

It's like with Offler and sausages! The gift of cake reaches Loki by being baked, and the spirit of the cake reaches him via the smell. Then you eat the ~~cake~~ earthly shell of the cake.
