Common thought, or COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT ZOMG? Regardless, it's dumb.
Don't think this qualifies as fandom, so OTF_ it is.

Blair is the blogger/proprietor of STFU, Parents, a user-generated blog that culls parents oversharing on Facebook. It's been around since February '09. (Featured on this comm last August.)

She posted on Facebook this morning about a slapped-together article on msn.com, "15 Things Moms Overshare on Facebook", with obviously fake statuses. (Statii?) STFUP blurs out last names, but the msn.com examples have no space for last names, and I'd like to see a real baby announcement (#5) with zero likes on it.

While Blair is very upset about this, her readers are extremely mixed. 250+ comments so far, fairly evenly divided between "call a copyright lawyer, down with this sort of thing" and "it might be a coincidence, I missed the part where you are the only one who can do this sort of thing". Blair in the comments as well, getting snotty as time goes by, which is always fun.

"I never said anyone has to agree with me. But I would never tell someone whose page and blog I read for free that they're "whining" over a corporation stealing ideas. That's rude and unsupportive." [cite] (I personally would have thrown in a "buy my book!") "I do not have a monopoly on the concept of mocking parent overshare with biting criticism. I invented the concept. If someone steals my exact ideas, that's stupid. I am allowed to be annoyed about it." [cite] "Does calling me a foolish whiner have a purpose? Or are you just trying to hurt my feelings? Just checking." [cite]

And to hit the Bingo, there's definitely a bit of deleting going on in the comments. (Marshall Lilly who?)

Good times.

I invented the concept.

I've had moments of mocking parents for their overshare with friends way before I even knew her blog existed... Maybe I should sue her!

Sorry, sweet-cheeks, you did not invent the concept of mocking people. It goes on the list of things that cavemen invented, along with cave drawing porn and writing things on the wall near where you piss.

But . . . it's not the same. The MSN article is made up of fictional examples (no last names visible is your hint that they're all made up) that are disturbingly dead-on with no commentary whatsoever, while STFU, Parents takes actual examples and adds snarky commentary. So, um, no.

Slightly tangentially, I was always a bit confused by the way some folks are forever complaining about their annoying third-cousin's hairdresser's boyfriend posted on Facebook - why not just not read people you don't like?

And then I realised that the internet basically turns everyone into otters eating watermelon. Even if it makes you cry, you can't stop.

Because it you follow them then their posts show up on your newsfeed. If you unfollow them there will be omgdrama.

There's actually a way to hide people from your newsfeed without unfriending them. (I have learned to do that with a couple people during election season.)

I just wish you could pick and choose topics to hide. There are a couple of on my newsfeed that I quite like when they're not retweeting anti-Obama propaganda and/or idiocy from the Tea Party.

I think you can by using "hide posts like these." Facebook will group messages on the same topic, and i know they use content scans to determine order (if you sort by importance over "all recent activity"), so you might be able to get the rankings to understand that "Tea Party" is not something you want to see.

I haven't gotten the time to try it yet, but I think you're right, in theory it should work.

Is there a bingo square for willful misunderstanding or redefining of terms? Because I really love this comment:

By calling me "way smarter than" you are calling me "stupid." By saying "I will miss your site" you are saying "I am no longer a fan of your site." You're dissing me. Own it.

We're about an inch away from "By saying 'I breathe' you mean 'I should die'. ZOMG death threats!"

She did that elsewhere, too.

Fan: Most of them do seem fake, but I don't think the whole "rip-off" aspect is going to work. Lamebook and Failbook are basically the same thing and people were annoyed at oversharing parents before STFUparents, you were just the smart one who was able to capitalize on it But anytime something is successful, people will try something similar.

Blair: And PS: Lamebook and Failbook came along after STFU, Parents, for anyone who's curious. The last time Failbook posted a submission on its site that was on my site, I had it removed. If we don't stand up for our intellectual property, what's the point of standing up for anything at all?

Well there's some internet lawyering in there,
some "pasted on is teh fakes" in there,
more cries of "Fakes" with a solid side of MSN sucks,
also the "GET OVER IT" bits(this never goes over well, believe me I tried it in the Ship Wars in the HP Fandom"),
some "you're actually not the first at it,"
Oh and STFU, Parents delivers a rally cry:"I'm just going to say this once: If you support a website and a blogger, and you say things like, "This isn't a rip-off," or, "You're not the first person to come up with this idea," you're not ACTUALLY supporting the site or the blogger. These examples were fabricated based on my blog. That is an infringement of intellectual property. Period. I post articles - ORIGINAL articles - about overshare all the time. And PS: Lamebook and Failbook came along after STFU, Parents, for anyone who's curious. The last time Failbook posted a submission on its site that was on my site, I had it removed. If we don't stand up for our intellectual property, what's the point of standing up for anything at all?" (I had to quote he/she/it in full because we can't link to individual comments on Facebook...can we?)

Well anyway, yeap, nice full blown wank, but its nothing we haven't seen before, can we sue her for not being original in he/she/it's wankiness???

I really didn't think there'd be a bigger lolyer fail than the lawsuit between Dr. Amy and Gina (the memo in support of the motion carries the faint odor of wet dog...) BUT APPARENTLY I WAS WRONG.

Did RDR publish a set of law textbooks while we weren't looking?

YES, bad metaphors, my favorite wank standard:

This is like a bunch of people in a room arguing about the room itself. I think some people are forgetting that B. DESIGNED the room, furnished the room, pays the rent on the room, and really, she lets whoever chooses to use the room. I think it's fair enough that 1. she gets to set the rules around the use of the room, and 2. she has a right to complain when someone steals parts of her design. I'm sure most of us would feel the same.

But has she got a patent on rooms?!
