My Gaia wank brings all the boys to the yard...

*sigh* Why is it that I always find out about the good drama far too late?
Meet Orlan Drake. He hangs out in the Anime/Manga/Comics forums. He believes that the majority of said forum is full of moronic n00bs who only want to talk about how iNuYaShA iZ sOo0o0oOoO kEwLiEz!!!!!!1. He also believes that the best way to show them the light is by making posts about how stupid everyone is.
He also has a fanclub/"elitist" "guild" (Gaia club)/flaming cabal called CAK, or Cyber Ass-Kick. The group, as it is now, looks like it's pretty much one step up from being attack dogs. But that's neither here nor there.
Orlan also has a dream: He wants to become a moderator. So he starts a petition for himself to be modded. That in itself is wanky enough, but when people dare to dissent, sparks fly.
Watch the CAKers overestimate their own importance! Thrill as Dark X Soul assembles a pack of vicious, frothing lamers flamers of doom to take down the rational! Gasp as they get smacked down by possibly the most sissy-boy avatar on the entire site!*
But that's not all. One of the CAKers posts her vision for Gaia, which is...well...horribly elitist and laughable. I do agree that 85% of Gaians are stupid, but...OMGWTF? Stupidity is not a bannable offense. (Emphasis mine.)
*nod* Kei-Keiko, you've been being a serious nuisance, so why not post in a thread that interests you? CAK is a group of people devoted into making Gaia idiot-free. Forums are meant for discussions, not, "OMFG INUYASHA IS LIK SOOOOO HOOTTTTTT! OMG I LIK WANNA MARY HIM!!!!!11 OMG WTF LOL!" If everyone were like that, I would feel disgusted. I am currently feeling nearly disgusted to the point of vomiting by the fact that 85% of the Gaian population is like that. If it were me, you were allowed one or two stupid comments like that, then you're out if you continue! Why don't you carry on with your business, and let us carry on with ours?
One of the CAKers comes in on page 9 and shows some intelligence, by calling off the attack hounds. It stays relatively nonwanky and uninteresting for the next few pages.

Firstly, Gaians don't choose you to be a mod, mods choose you to be one of them. It's not a close group so much as it's a very elite group.
Secondly, Gaia's an open community, in that it encourages everybody to show up and post, no matter their supposed "intelligence" level. Take for example the Writer's Forum, which is filled with so much ego-boosting bullshit, it's not really a writing forum so much as an ego forum. Gaia could have made the forum much more restrictive and rigid then it is now, but they chose not to. Why? Because Gaia is not a place where the elite to dwell. Gaia is for everybody.
You don't like the stupidity? Good for you. Do what every other person does, and try to change it. You don't need a moderator's power to do so. If you see a misplaced thread, you don't need to be a moderator to move it, you just have to pm a mod.
Next thing. Mods don't determine rules or regulations. The Admin does. That's Lanzer, VO, L0cke, and Ling. Nobody else. Mods just enforce the rules when they can.
Last, being a mod means just one thing for you. It means you can make the Anime/Manga/Comics forums a far more rigid place then it is now. I'll grant you that I personally dislike a lot of the bull that you want gone, but I'm not going to say "it's banned." To ban it is to reduce the range of topics which users can talk about. Sure, "INUYASHA HAWT!!" gets rather annoying after a while, but hey, if they want to talk about it, so be it. If more then two threads of said topic pop up, the mods are usually quick enough to eliminate the extras.
Since Gaia is open, and since I want to see Gaia continue to be the place that it is, free for everybody and anybody, dumb, smart, ignorant, learned, or whatever. If you do become a mod, it won't be because a small percentage of Gaia wants you to be, it'll be because the Gaian Administration and the Gaian Moderators recognize in you the ability to be fair, impartial, and responsible, not just to your own goals, but to the goals and beliefs of Gaia.
Translation: No way, bucko.
And then the circle of wank starts up again. I particularly love Dark X Soul's retorts to WJ's utter dismissal of her and her friend's point:

As a result of this latest kerfluffle, Orlan rescinds his petition...for half an hour, after a couple of his harem reinflate his ego. Then Streamjumper hands in Smackdown #2.
I do not support Orlan Drake as Mod, Admin, or Diety. Since the last person to leave it at that was lambasted for not giving their reasons, here are mine.
First, all we have to go on as to his behavior is a massive heap of flames and two or three people's promises that he won't become Mod Hitler. Its all well and nice that several of you know him in real life, but all Gaia has to go on are contstant comments about killing the stupid, more flames than the entire Burger King chain, and a less than stellar reputation. He could save orphans for burning buildings for 40 hours a week and it wouldn't matter, mods become mods for being highly respected and helpful on Gaia.
Second, your willingness to dismiss the fact that this thread belongs in this forum with comments about how if the mods saw it they'd move it is disturbing. When combined with your bitching about the numbers of misplaced threads and constant criticism of the current mods this smacks of hypocrasy. This may not be the intent, but you should realize that breaking the rules does not help you prove that you're the man to enforce them. What would help would be to point the bewildered in the right direction, PM mods with misplaced/duplicate threads, report abusive users, and generally try to help in a more constructive manner. Gaia's a damn big place, and the mods need all the help they can get, and I've never had any trouble getting a mods attention when they're needed. Since we're partaking of Lanzer's generousity, we're somewhat obligated to help keep the place neat and tidy if we want it kept that way.
Let's not even touch on your willingness to make stupid threads like "WHY ARE CHICKS WHO LIKE ANIME ALWAYS STUPID!!!!?????"... It doesn't help you any, and I'll need my breath for the next item.
Third, I'm highly suspicious of anyone who nominates themself to any position. Had you found a well known and respected Gaian to nominate you and open this thread, that wouldn't be an issue, but you did. This makes you seem power- hungry. Once again, this may not be true, but in an online community, the reprecussions are undeniable. Worse yet, you made it a petition. This implies that not only do you know how to run Gaia better than Lanzer, but so do another few dozen people who may or may not know squat about coding, hardware installation/repair, internet law, business management, the taxation intricacies of nonprofit status, and/or forum administration/moderation.
Fourth, as Creepyeye Langley (sorry if I misspelled/parsed it) pointed out, you've got a couple attack dogs loose in your yard. Your near total inability to keep three or four of your CAK members in line says little for your proposed ability to keep a forum of a few thousand users under control. I believe in the opening post here you specifically stated that you didn't want any flaming/flamers in here, yet the definition of CAK I've seen given in here several times is a group based on flaming anyone you deem to be an idiot. So far these "forbidden" flamers in your thread have attacked nearly everyone to disagree with your quest for glory and you've simply sat back. No request that they apologize, no telling them to sit down and shut up rather than deep-sixing this petition with their rabid zeal to percieve everything as an insult, no other mod-like actions either... As I have stated before, in an online forum others' perception of you become your online persona... so far you've done nothing, think how that looks.
And giving up only to return to things less than half an hour later? Mods are supposed to be decisive, and you claim to want to take decisive action...
So no, I didn't support you at the beginning of this thread, and after reading more, I vehemently do not support you.
