heh, I was waiting for this to happen. Cel wank. sorta
Baka Neko Fancels had a fan art contest and recently announced the winners. Fancels.org(who I posted about here doesn't take well to her placing in the three winners " Yeah... viewing it again now reveiled to me that it actually sucks" Not much wank there but it's only the warm up.
Here is where where things explode. When Fancels.org announced her "Final Update" bemoaning her lack of artistic ability and contemplates taking her fancels down. SOme people try to complement and encourage her; and cheer her up, but she responds, oddly enough, with anger and insults. I can't say i ever understood her logic process.

Edited to fix some links.

I think some of the links on your entry need fixin'.

And dude, if that first message board post is JUST the warm-up, I'm afraid to click the one where you said the wank explodes in. I mean, just the first paragraph was enough to get spooge in my eye:

Yeah... viewing it again now reveiled to me that it actually sucks and that I may want to take it down from my site as well - it's not like people need to see such worthless crap in a portfolio meant to attract employers. If I'm not even good enough to win all contests that I enter, I might as well consider writing plain text novels, at least there're no graphics to screw up and nothing to be embarrassed of.

Okay, why the hell do people think writing's any easier than visual art? Because almost everyone does casual amounts of it every day? PFFT... if ONLY it were that simple.

I'm, alas, waaaaaaaaaaaaay to used to hearing this kinda shit - admittedly, it's usually phrased in a slimy, snidey, discriminatory round-about way rather than so bluntly abusive.

Interesting standards this girl has - it would seem that attempting to get help for one's problems/issues = bad, while taking one's problems/issues out on others (which is most certainly what she's doing in the bit you quoted) = good.

Subject: The FINAL update ^-^ (Sat Feb 21 22:56:26 2004 )
Author: fancels-org

I think I never made any site more appropriate
than this! The layout suits my HTML skill level.
The graphics suit my artistic skill. The text
suits my sense of humour. And that way, with no
files up, I'm no longer paying anything :)
I think it's great!

My cels are still at Rubberslug, but I will, I
think, take down the fancels. I'm really
embarrassed about them. Dunno, why open my eyes
only NOW that it's too late to hide my worthless
scribbles from the public..? DAMN^^;;

Dear Anna,

I have to confess and be honest. I have watched
your posts for quite a while now staying on the
fringes, and cringing at times, seeing you battle-
on-through the fire, never giving up in your
pursuit to shock and impress. I had chosen not to
reply to many controversial things that have
expired with your posts and comments since you
have arrived here.

Some of your posts appeared to me for the fun of
shock value :o, others down right witch-craft-
laced, Err...Well you know how opinionated you
get... ;-)

(I actually, liked your semi-nude photo though..I
still remember how it inflamed everybody, but
ah..)
Ah yeah, anyway...

This time you have struck a chord with me. I
think that your this post is very amusing and
shows great signs of maturity ;-)

I liked it! Have a good one..

E
-----------------------------
Subject: Wow. Somebody knows me without knowing me. Sounds wrong...
Author: fancels-org

Pal... I HATE, no, I DISALLOW mistakes about my
personality or my thinking. In public, anyways.
DO NOT judge me without any confirmation of what
you're saying. Ok?

1. "never giving up in your pursuit to shock and
impress."
Dunno. Are you lying on purpose or are you simply
easily shocked and impressed? Let me inform you:
Europeans are less easily shocked about some
things than Americans are. That is NOT an offense
but a fact, proved by all the censorship in
American media. So maybe I, as a European don't
expect things I post to shock anyone because I
consider them ok? Like, some ppl are shocked
about homos while IMO no mature person should
think it's shocking/offending. Dark Ages are over.

2. "down right witch-craft-laced"
WTF are you talking about? I'm no fricken wiccan.
Talking about the ability to feel presences?
That's nothing special, all you need to know in
order to do it is that every brain ejects some
kinda waves, and very sensitive ppl, like me who
gets stoned by the mere sidestream smoke of
hasch, can sense them. Try it. Mentioning that
ability is, to me, the same as someone else
saying "I ate a cooky": no big deal.
--Lectue end--

3. "I actually, liked your semi-nude photo
though..I still remember how it inflamed
everybody, but ah.."
Thanks. But here we're back to point 1: HOW could
I know some ppl are immature enough to be all
shocked about a harmless bitty nudity?? Not
talkin' about running around naked, but why the
heck be going hysterical about some tasteful
nudity on paper?? We're no infants now, are we?
Nudity and pornography are 2 different matters...

4. "this post is very amusing and shows great
signs of maturity"
Yeah, I know what you're thinking: "Poor kid
can't take a defeat". Correction.
a) I can take a defeat from an opponent I deem
worthy.
b) THAT is NOT why I'm mad. I am NOT mad at Lia
or the winner as you may think. I'm mad about
myself for being overconfident after too much
praise/success and I have a hard time digesting
the retrieved truth. WHY the hell are you
twisting my words when you obviously don't even
understand them? And no, it is NOT because my
English is poor. I know you CAN understand what I
write. You just don't WANT to.

Btw, you're very familiar with me. What made you
think you know me well enough? Your reply shows
you don't.

Anna

PS I pose you a simple question. By answering it
correctly, you obtain the right to (carefully)
judge me. Question: Am I more a dog or a cat
person, and why? What makes me get along with
that animal more than the other?

Someone who has actually benefited a lot from
counseling to deal with a lifetime of self-hatred.

Not only do I not tell the counselor I'm God, I
don't lie on a couch. I merely discuss life with
someone older and wiser than I, who is able to
help me accept my own imperfections and
inadequacies, and recognize that I'm actually a
pretty successful and competent human being.

*I'm* a scribbler. I'd love to be able to draw

I was suggesting counseling in total jest, but
you really ARE hard on yourself. If you don't

Yet I'm not hard on myself, I only refuse

Don't forget that your "loss" was the opinion of
ONE person who had a hard time making up her
mind, (or his??) according to the site. And
apparently valued something -- although I really
am hard pressed to guess exactly what -- more
than professional looking art. Other people's
mileage may vary. In other words,

1) We may not agree that your submission was
worse than the others; in which case

2) It is a logical fallacy to say that your
getting 3rd rather than 1st price = you suck.

Your art does NOT suck. There will always be
some artist whose work is more appealing than
yours to SOME person for whatever reason. But
you don't suck. (MY art sucks. But I'm too
chicken to show it to anyone.)

Frankly, I did not like most of your fan cels. I
think they were lacking in a lot of areas.
However, if you really want to do them well, why
not pursue training in art? Most colleges don't
require you to draw or paint well in order to
take art classes, unless you are trying to get
into a very high level place like the Art
Institute. I love to draw and paint. Some of my
fanart is good, in my opinion, some is not. None
of it is professional quality. But I love it, so
I do it, and I work to improve, and some day soon
I think I will get that art degree. The point is,
instead of getting discouraged, get motivated.
If you don't care, fine, let it go, and don't
waste time. But there are lots of people who
start out as terrible artists but with time,
training, and practice, become very good. You
must not be so sensitive though, if people
criticize you- because then you will not improve-
you have to realize that some criticism really is
constructive, and everyone learns from mistakes
(though not all mistakes, and not all the time).
