TBQ's law. Anyone who tries defend themseleves from accusations of homophobia by saying their uncle/brother/best friend ect. is gay, loses the argument, and is reminded that everyone knows someone who is gay, so flashing your Queer Cred is redundant.

I agree that the bitching about colorbars somehow being "gay-only" or somehow disrespectful to gays is totally bullshit...but gods, there has to be a better way of saying that than this person is doing.

The thing is, the original colorbar was explicitly about gay marriage, and the rainbow bar was chosen explicitly to reflect the pride flag. So, sure, all rainbow motifs do not belong to (and only to) the gay culture, but that particular color bar was at least originally conceived as a specific gay symbol. I can see the point that it's not like the rainbow was a random part of the original meme.

I can see the point...but I just don't think it's a very strong point. I would ~very~ much doubt that any GLBT causes are being hurt by this or that somehow GLBT people are being taken less seriously because of it, which seems to be the point of the OP that started this whole mess.
