Worth dragging out into its own thread?
[info]davidkevin appears to be at it again. (We're betting it's about this.) Ever wondered what it takes to be banned from a laidback comm like [info]metaquotes? Let's watch and see!

NOTE: The thread is locked and the comments are being deleted, but a running tally is being kept here.

The post in question is here http://www.livejournal.com/community/metaquotes/816909.html in case you belong to Metaquotes.

He's promised to delete it, so hurry. I've got current comments saved.

What confuses me is locking a post in a community of over a thousand people... that takes some stupidity balls...

Especially since the person that he's mad at is, by definition, a member.

That's an awfully nice icon. :)

I routinely lock my posts in any community, to restrict reading to only members of that community.

I asked a simple question. I deleted irrelevant answers. I still only want the answer to my question.

Somebody else has implied that you are a or the moderator? Is that correct or not?

1. OKAY!

2. We don't do that here.

Well, given that the mod ANSWERED you with a response that basically said your quest is futile...

To quote a famous punch line, "What you mean 'we', kemosabe?"

There is no rule on the User Info page to that effect.

> Well, given that the mod ANSWERED you with a response that basically said your quest is futile...

If _redpanda_ is the moderator, he/she didn't identify her/himself as such. I still don't have the answer to my question. The reason for the question was so that I could politely ask another question by private e-mail. How evil of me.

Rule of Thumb - learn it and love it.

When posting in a community, first read posts and not what the unspoken rules of the community are. Things to note are: tone (light, formal, pedantic, silly), the formatting of posts (types of titles, whether they are locked, importance of spell checking, etc...), and the comments that different posts receive (approving responses indicate posts you want to emulate if you wish to be approved of in the community).

In brief: Read first, then post.

It's not a rule. It's more like...sort of understood.

I mean, think about it. This is a community purely for the sharing of quotes. There have been a few friends-only ones, I believe, each with a remarkably good reason, such as "this was on a friends-only post, and I got permission to share it if I put it on friends-only."

If _redpanda_ is the moderator, he/she didn't identify her/himself as such. I still don't have the answer to my question. The reason for the question was so that I could politely ask another question by private e-mail. How evil of me.

As politely as all this? And now you know _redpanda_ is the mod. You may go do your funky thing, now.

Yes. I am THE moderator. Yes, my reply was light in nature, but lightness is the whole point of this community. If you deleted a mod's reply by mistake in your indiscrimate comment-deleting spree, well, learn from it -- be less trigger-happy in future.

No, I wasn't indiscriminate. No, you did not identify youself as the moderator. No, the User Info page does not identify you as the moderator. No, I am not able to read your mind and discern that without your saying it.

I am now going to delete the entire post as off-topic. I wouldn't have posted the query in the group at all if the information was posted where one would normally expect to find it, e.g., the User Info page.

Sorry to have gotten off on the wrong foot with you. Please take this comment as made in a friendly spirit.

It all depends on the level of coping and the skill in moderating the disorder. *shrugs* I spent a year teaching extreme autistics, and the individual differences between them was astounding. A lot of it (not all, of course) could be put down to the amount of effort the parents put into socializing and teaching the children outside of the classroom.

*pats onna head* You're a good Asperger's boy. ;) Want some chocolate?

I am pretty sure that the person whose comment you deleted is one of the moderators. And she addressed your concern.

Deleting her comment -- oh, bad move. That's just gonna piss her off.

Here's the skinny: if your entry was public, nobody needs permission to quote you because you said it in public. ^.^

Hmm. That actually would've been kind of funny. Well, if everyone had pretended to be the mod; "I'm Spartacus" is only funny in BitofEarth-related wanks.

OBDevil'sAdvocate - it really was kind of annoying that the community maintainer wasn't listed anywhere. I went looking for the info myself just so I could give it to him when there were only about 2 comments on the post, to cut the wank off at the pass. (Love wank. Don't love it in metaquotes.) I don't fault [info]redpanda for this; I assumed right up until I went on my fruitless search that LJ itself provided that info in the community info page; it should.
