Oh honey, you did NOT just say 'Starsky & Hutch legacy.'
Soul actually lobbied Warner Bros. to hire him and Glaser to star in the movie (!!!) by sending an e-mail to a popular Starsky & Hutch Web site.

"They (the studio) believe that by casting two young box-office types and pandering to a kind of '70s nostalgia, they will make money," Soul wrote. "How much more clever it would be if Warners were to produce a film that capitalized on the real friendship between Paul and myself as well as the huge following that still exists internationally and (make) a film that brought closure to the
Starsky & Hutch legacy?"

The Palm Beach Post talks to Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul about the Starsky and Hutch movie.

"That was probably the key element," he says, "the depth of their relationship. We had a real sense about knowing what the other guy was doing, and we had real good timing."

Considering Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are great friends off camera, and have wonderful comedic timing... I think this just just needs to shut up, sit down, and realize he is NOT a celebrity anymore.

*sporfle* That's one funny article, right there. I love how even the interviewer was on about the homosexual subtext in the original.

Hell, the first time I encountered the concept of slash, it was...um, Kirk and Spock. But the SECOND couple was Starsky and Hutch.

shall i count off how many times that's worked in the past? honestly, the kiddies don't care about your show - they just wanna laugh at the stupid outfits and bad hairstyles. it may hurt deep down inside, but it's true.

And chances are that most people will think it's a movie based on the Beastie Boy's sabotage video.

I'm 27. And the show was off the air before I ever got to consciously see episodes of it in reruns.

And I actually looked, what with the slash and all.

Why must Teh Gay always accompany such bad tv?

Oh, jeez. Is that guy hard up for work or what?

Also, there was NO GAY SUBTEXT in the original show. No, there wasn't. No, I can't hear you. You know why there wasn't? Because no slash should ever, ever involve Huggy Bear even peripherally.

And no, my childhood self SO DID NOT look at that one clip in the opening credits and go "Man, just kiss him while you're there, would you?"

I just read a book on 1960s British adventure series, and for some reason the author felt compelled to go into great and lengthy detail about how if anyone saw any sort of gay subtext in The Persuaders!, they were misreading perfectly innocent heterosexual cultural norms of the time and were wrong wrong wrong. He gave examples of these perfectly innocent smoldering glances, instances of strictly platonic jealousy, and crotch-groping. Okay, I made up the crotch-groping.

This, of course, makes me want to see The Persuaders! in the worst way, exclamation point and all.

What is this The Persuaders thing you're talking about? Where can I find it?

I have like, scientific interest in it.

I've always liked Paul Michael Glaser. I can understand why he might be a bit grumpy at the spoof nature of the film. I doubt he's crying about lack of things to do these days, though, since the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation probably keeps him pretty busy when he isn't guest starring on Third Watch.

And yet, they both make cameos in the movie. Guess he wasn't hurt that much.
