The hamster community on LJ wanks... over what you should feed dogs and cats, and veganism.

Hamster wank. Wow.

I didn't think there could be a pet wank to match 'If you let your cat outdoors you're a caring, loving eeevil bitch unworthy of your pet's affection.

Obviously, I was wrong.

Vegan... well, at least they're not eating/drinking rape juice.

Dangit, and that was gonna be my first post of wank. :*-(

...awww, look at how cute my smiley is. I mean, yeah, I'm devastated.

Am I the only one who thought the OP was talking about their actual children for a moment? They don't seem to understand that their animals aren't human and simply might not be physically capable of handling it. Well, they say they do, and that they've done the research, but apparently don't think their beliefs are worth backing up by showing it to other people. And they think that checking other communities and reading them is trolling. I didn't know I could troll something just by reading. I feel powerful. Look, I just trolled hamsters, and without a single post!

The carebears just make the snark more amusing.

The issue of veganism/vegetarianism and how it applies to carnivorous animals produces almost as much wank as the Harry Potter fandom.

Hamsters, however, are a new twist.

~head desk~

Let's not eat anything or anyone else. We can ban bugs from decomposing our garbage even.

Some animals will eat anything [including each other]. So it's up to us to make it more nutritionally dense yes. Not ourselves dense.

~hell with tonges that long, wouldn't YOU want to be eating each other?~

Wow... vegan dogs and cats. Wanna bet that you give them a choice between a burger and a pile of grain, and they go for the burger?

Isn't depriving dogs and cats of meat/cheeses/etc dangerous for their health? I know for cats it is. I'm addicted to those Animal Cops/Animal Precinct shows on Animal Planet, and I remember the kitties whose owner fed them rice and tuna, and they went blind. The lack of some certain nutriant caused their retinas to be destroyed.

Ah well, to each their own, I suppose. Nutbag.

I posed the OP this question:

"Would you force an exotic animal to eat a diet that is biologically inappropriate to their species?

Exotics like say, hedgehogs (which are insectivores), or reptiles like snakes (which consume small animals like rodents and birds, or eggs, depending on species) and lizards (many of which are also insectivorous), or invertibrates like spiders and scorpions (also insectivorous)?

Would you try and convince your hedgehog to eat a vegan diet? Or convince your boa to eat something other than rabbits?

Because if you're willing to feed your dogs and cats an unnatural vegan diet, you'd probably be willing to force-feed a spider tofu when it'd rather eat a cricket."

I wanna see what sort of a reaction I'll get. It'll probably be along the lines of "well I don't own exotics, so I don't have to worry", which will earn them a "Stay on topic. The question wasn't 'Do you own exotics?' but 'Would you feed them a biologically-inappropriate diet?'".

Vegans can be utterly predictable some times...

Oh man, I didn't even see this part!

"If you are speaking Biologically, yes there is a big difference between animals and mammals. Where there are some similarities between humans and animals definition-wise, there are also some very great differences-some of those include that humans have the ability to think and to reason whereas, have the ability to communicate on a much higher level than that of animals. if cats are outside and become ferel they will in order to survive hunt and kill birds and rodents...therefor harming local wildlife

Because normally they are content to eat grass, buttercups and daisies. It's only once they've gone all ferel [sic] that they get the taste for blood. God the stupid in that wank is mind boggling.

Oh dear Lord.
I'm not a vegan (far from it), but if my old dressage instructor were here, she'd give him a beautiful smackdown. She was a vegan, but was the most sensible people I've ever met. Her whole deal was to do things as "naturally" as possible, and since human teeth are made for chomping plants...

However, she did gratefully accept my gift of a deer liver for her cats.
