A pipe? No! ([info]also_not_a_pipe) wrote in [info]otf_wank,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
For April Fools' Day, moroveus decides that he wants to pick on the conservatives by doing the old Somethingawful.com switcheroo. Most of his friends congratulate him for being so *cough* brilliant. I guess the trick was leaked or something, because he trips the prank early, with the switched graphic pointing to this page.

Perhaps to fit in with the crowd, he also congratulates himself. Lots of people are less amused. The moderator of the Republican nation community even closes posting in the community (and also deletes a beautifully juicy thread of wank. Le sigh).

Then his friend req posts in blog_sociology, ostensibly raising the issue of whether or not a trick like that is a good use of blogs. Most of the other members seem pretty bored by it. If anything, they remark on its level of maturity. But one user does get a little splurty.

I don't give a rat's butt about whether "under god" is in the Pledge, so I'm not offended by his imagery. That said, I think the prank is juvenile, and I really, REALLY wish these people could just leave the Republican communities *alone.* Good grief, can't we have our space to play in too??

Aparently not since we're all supposedly racist hyper-christian gay-basher redneck. Or something.

I'm not a Republican myself, but since I do tend to lean to the Right, I agree... it seems like every community for every fandom out there, almost, is actually a Democrat community in disguise as a fandom community, at times, and God and all his magic pubic hairs forbid that the Republicans have someplace to go. (They must all be planning Klan meetings over there, after all!)

YOU BROUGHT HP INTO IT.

This thread will now fall spiraling into the depths of wank and never be seen again.

And it was a good thread, too.

*cries*

This guy is why "stop being on my side, you're making my side look stupid" icons were invented.

Incidentally, that's the best "now he dead from coke" icon I've seen since the Gil-Galad one. Huzzah!

Eh, it was a wanky thing to do, but at least it was creatively wanky.

I'll probably change my tune when a thousand copycats start up, though.

I dunno, while I can at least vaguely respect the thoroughness of his implementation, it seems like much ado about a very old trick. Image-swapping is both very old and very juvenile.

Good god, if I have ever needed a "stop being on my side" icon...
