TRIBUNAL!
I missed the first half of this wank so forgive me if it doesn't seem complete.

Avon is a popular teen messageboard. -Krissie-, one of the members, is a bit of a Big Name Poster there, but recently she's been under fire for apparently lying about her life.

Quite some debate and fights go on about her authenticity (is she really a singer? Does she really have a daughter? Does she work? etc). The posters and admins of Avon decide to hold a tribunal about Krissie.

Yes. An OFFICIAL tribunal. Just so there "aren't any unwarranted personal attacks against her".

Some time later the tribunal returns, with the verdict :

Guilty.

Turns out there is an adoption article that "exposes" Krissie as a fake..

Of course, more mud-slinging happens, with Krissie coming by every once in a while to defend herself, and many of us going "WTF do we need a TRIBUNAL for?".

Stay tuned.

...their logic, it does not resemble Earth logic.

Dude... if this Krissie is the same as the girl in that article, then I don't care HOW pretentious or silly or stupid a tribunal may be, she needs to be exposed wherever she goes. o.O

There's another jurisimprudence-worthy wank here too -- "you must have done something really bad in a former life to deserve this all." Somehow, I think if Christian flames of "you're evil and going to hell" are bad, so are Buddhist/Hindu "karma will get/has gotten you" reincarnation flames. Especially when they are all-too-frequently gross misunderstandings of how karma and reincarnation work.

Indeed. I'm having flashbacks to BitofEarth, but somehow this strikes me as much more...personal. Sociopath is a way overused word, but it seems appropriate here -- the kid seemed to have a complete and utter disdain for the emotional resonances that most of us take for granted.

I once clicked on a link to a "tribute" page to discover that it was a memorial to one such fan, whose repeated "illnesses" I happened to have witnessed on a mailing list I belonged to. Part of me was boggled that anyone had actually believed the fantastical BS she (or rather, her "family") fed them, but mostly I was irritated at her for duping people into grieving for her sorry ass.

And then there was the guy who posted to another mailing list I was on the day after 9/11, claiming to be a "friend" of the person whose account he was using to post, and feeding the list a pack of lies about how his "friend" was supposed to have been at the WTC that day and he was worried about him, then following up with an account of his "friend's" tragic death and how he'd died saving other people, etc.

Fucked up shit.

It's really twisted in a basic, disturbing, inhumane way. It's taking the legitimet pain suffered by people and turning it into a gag...

heheh, I saw it! Ah, the joy of having the entire Flying Circus DVD set.

You know, a recent subthread on F_W that ended with me quoting the entire "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from "Life of Brian" and almost quoting from "Holy Grail" (something to do with fangirls and Galahad) has led me to the hypothesis that there is no wank that cannot be mocked exclusively through the use of Monty Python jokes, quotes and anecdotes. I may have stumbled on some sort of jurisimprudence tangent here, though damned if I know what.

I only read a total of fifteen pages on all those threads, but they needed a tribunal to prove she was lying out her ass? It's not like she's even any good at it. We experienced liars pick only one area in which to practice our craft. I'm an accomplished gymnasts with many tropies and medals, in case you didn't know.
