The Wank That Ate Gaia
(sorry, [info]oxydosic, for stealing your thunder. I just needed to share the joy with all.)

Meet Kalec_Deathmage. Ostensibly, he's one of the richest users on Gaia, if not the richest user. As such, he's a target for scamming, but that's neither here nor there. He also has a camp of fangirls who apparently see no wrong in him. More importantly, he has a lot of value that he wants to put towards a halo.

Meet veris. She's a moderator dedicated to the Gaian Exchange, and she's also filthy rich. Between her and her boyfriend 58mm, they have two halos, which are the first donation gift and by far the most expensive items in the game.

One day, veris decided to start a rental shop (which I don't know the status of), where users that met certain requirements could loan out any item in Gaia for a set period of time. It was good, for the most part, but people had a tendency to steal stuff from her shop, like mini-Nitemare wings.

A couple of days ago, some user decided to borrow a halo from veris' rental shop, and was approved. He turns around and sells it to the nearest buyer, who happens to be Kalec. He plunks down a trade worth 10.5 million gold, and he gets the halo.

veris, of course, is furious about this, and demands the halo back. Kalec refuses to give it back until he gets his stuff back--which is against the TOS, which explicitly states that if you lose your items, Gaia disavows all responsibility. And this is where the drama begins.

Kalec's shop becomes a battleground of wills, with his numerous supporters and even more numerous detractors going at it tooth and nail. The fun starts around page 800, and continues up until around page 975 in that thread.

Things heat up when Noraboo, one of the other mods (for ED), hands the smackdown to Kalec's camp, and Avie comes in for backup. The debate escalates until a mysterious mod decides to lock the thread around page 940, causing Kalec to open another thread bitching about it (which was sadly deleted).

The shop is reopened about half an hour later, and the initial wank continues until Kalec discovers a rollback and announces it to his followers. Then, all hell breaks loose across Gaia, culminating in trufflepig bitching out the mods for having a double standard. Lanzer states his piece, and the thread is stickied.

Of course, the best part was the snarking all over Gaia about the situation...

(Sorry, I just can't do this justice. The wank, it is a thing of beauty.

I think we should make [info]feenix pay for cleaning the brain bits out of the carpet.

Aww, its ok. You said it a lot better than i did. My brain started frying from all the stupid.

I like though, how Lanzer posts an 'explanation' about why the rollback happened in response to trufflepig, but really explains nothing...then locks the post so no one can reply.

It wasnt' because Veris was a mod at all. Uh huh.
