After-dinner Mint Wank
('Cause, let's face it, after the tsunami of spooge over on FW, we need it.)

[info]withevrylite posts to mock_the_stupid:

Ok, my roommate is very naive and ignorant. Not to mention she was raised as a Christian in a small town.

So, one night she was talking to her mom on the phone. She was talking about some guy she likes and she goes: "I don't know if he's a Christian. He's a psychology major so I think he believes in Darwin."

Yeah, because being a psychology major has everything to do with not being a Christian and "believing in" Darwin...instead of God.

(Hint: The wank arises from the first two sentences.)

[info]xotatithehottie is the first to take offense: Yeah, I think making the generalization that being Christian and being from a small town makes you automatically ignorant, is ignorant in itself.

[info]miss_soap disagrees and trades barely-concealed snark with [info]xotatithehottie. Then [info]dorktower steps in, offering his/her two cents, to which [info]xotatithehottie replies with Right, I'll stand corrected to someone with horrible grammar and spelling skills. *cough*notsoadeptatgrammaryourselfsweetheart*cough*

And there it's stopped for now. Don't think we'll break 1600 with this one.

I can kinda see the OP's point (the thing about Darwin was, honestly, pretty ignorant), but who's to say she couldn't set her roommate straight? That and the OP's only 19; she's practically still a kid, and reading her LJ, it kinda shows. :/

If she were my age (*cough*thesubjectofTeh_UltraWank*cough*) and being this judgmental, I'd be more worried.

I think that the OPs comments could have been clearer, but if a person is from a small town, and never goes outside of that town, then, yes, there is a good chance that they are going to have a narrower point of view. Likewise, while I know some really, really, absolutely amazing and cool Christians, I've also met numerous Christians who were closed minded idiots. Generalizations don't always apply, but they do hold a basis. And, if the OP's friend then shows that she fits the generalization, then I think the two sentences can be forgiven. Except not in mock_the_stupid.

*fangirls marshmallow coated Winston*

I don't really see a person's age as an excuse. I was very mature and capable of individual opinion at that age...but then i hear i'm a freak so who knows.

Well, see, that's my point. :) Seems like a lot of people (especially on LJ...) are not quite as mature as they probably should be at that age.

I had a roommate that told me that since I didn't have Jesus Christ in my heart, I was going to hell.

So I did the easy thing. The housing lottery came around and I went in with a girl that was Pagan and into porn. Needless to say, we're still good friends to this day.

Though, I was temped to ask the roommate how I could go to a place I didn't believe in. Too bad I didn't.

She'd have probably just told you that for sure you'd believe in Hell after you got there, but by then it'd be too late.

My RE teacher told me that once. (that I was going to Hell) By the time I got to university my standard answer was a very serious.

"You really think so? Thank you, I do *try*" to any such criticism.

For me it was the 6 year olds on the playground that said I was going to hell because I didn't go to church. Isn't brainwashing so lovely?

Then, I had a friend who said even though I'm a good person and help people I was still going to hell because I wasn't Christian. Anyone who follows their faith blindly annoy me.

I was five when the Mean Girl From Elementary School(tm) told me I was going to hell. And just because I told her that there wasn't any such thing as god.

I do rather like the "LiveJournal: Because You Can't Masturbate All The Time" icon that comes out to play here. Otherwise, well, [info]jurisimprudence violations a-go-go.

*sporfle*

Wait...believes in Darwin's Theory or Darwin the person? Because if she meant it as "he believes in" the latter, then...

Well, it's kind of hard to NOT believe in Darwin... books don't write themselves, you know. And there is a matter of all the photographs and records... *just came from the local museum's exhibit on Darwin*

Thank you, I crack jokes because otherwise you would get a long lecture on the philosophy of science, which I think eveyrone here can safely ignore.

I find it amusing that when people are upset or losing in an argument, they will insult the other person's grammar and spelling. You know, perfect spelling and grammar really defines intelligence. Yep. *nods all sage-like*

Yeah, I think making the generalization that being Christian and being from a small town makes you automatically ignorant, is ignorant in itself.

I have to agree with that. I come from a small town myself, and though the Christian population is abnoxious at points (I worked with a die-hard Christian for a few months that made me want to kill her), not all of them were ignorant.

In fact, a lot were very open-minded.

For what it's worth I agree with it too; saying all small-town Christians are naive and ignorant is like saying all Buddhists set themselves on fire or all Muslims are terrorists. But I knew as soon as I read that that it would get wanky.

A friend of mine gave me a Japanese fanart site of Harry Potter, which is where I found it. ^^; I don't have the link handy, though.

While I don't think it was phrased right, the OP was basically giving reasons for her roommate's specific idiocy. The post wouldn't work if she said: "Ok, my roommate is very naive and ignorant. Not to mention she was raised by hyenas in Fandom_Wank."

The two aren't mutually exclusive, but it would explain if said roommate all of a sudden started gnawing on carrion and making photo manips and selling them for forty dollars.
