My firstest wank. Be nice to me?
In the som_pos community, perswasian posts about Pat Tillman's death in Afghanistan.

Within the hour, people question:
(a) What makes his death so special?
(b) Why is this in the S*P community?

And the wank, it ensues, with heaps of profanity and self-importance ALL over the place.

ETA: Dammit. Now it ded from mod.
Edit Again: The Mods make their voice known.

Ayup. What's the normal protocol when the source gets gacked and I didn't get a mirror? Delete this post too?

Some football player got himself killed in Iraq, and we should apparently care.

Some football player who gave up a multimillion dollar pro contract to join the military got killed in Iraq, and apparently this makes him more worthy of recognition than the poor kids who joined up just to pay for college or something.

Yeah, damn those people and their devotion to this country! Don't they know it's all blood for oil?! Just dump 'em over the side of a ship and beat their families bloody, forget all that stupid "honoring" stuff.

I think you've got your signals a little crossed.

Most of us who do not support the war or the damn Shrub have nothing but support for the troops. After all, they're the ones who're being made to suffer because of that "blood for oil" thing.

Funny, last I looked, there wasn't a draft... the people in the military weren't press-ganged, they're there because they joined up.
The young man in question SPECIFICALLY joined up because of 9/11. So I think he was prepared to suffer for this "war for oil", which, I'm sorry, if you believe, you're just not in touch with reality.

I think you misinterpreted Rhi's comment. She seemed like wasn't insulting people who volunteered. She was making a sarcastic comment that because this guy gave up football to join the war and die, he's more special than others who had less entertainment value reasons. Like a need for money or all that "devotion to their country" crap.
