NationStates Wank
For those of you who may not know, NationStates is an RPG in which you set up your own country and, in my case, completely run it into the ground.

The "General" forum at NationStates is where the trolls come to play, because the topics there are allowed to have nothing whatsoever to do with gameplay.

(One of) the latest wank(s) consists of someone wanting to petition against the United Nations (the REAL one, not the one set up for the game) due to their "doing nothing about the persecution of Christians". Well, I’m sure the three whole Christians who are being persecuted in this world will be eternally grateful.

Since the forums are notorious for being nigh impossible to log into about 75% of the time, some choice bits follow:

From the OP:

ok. well I think the U.N. is biased. They help Palestinian terrorists, yet wont lift a finger to help Christians being enslaved by Muslims in Sudan, or havingtheir churches burned in Nigeria.

i am amazed none of you see the blatant antiChristian antiIsrael bias the UN has. Thankfully somer of us do and we are workig to expose their works.

Some replies:

Yes, the 3 billion Christians in the world are being persecuted by the 3.001 billion non-Christians, who have all united to subjugate the Christian population.

Hey it also gives us something to talk about, and it uses up space in cyberspace that otherwise may be used for people saying how to make a bomb.

Kofi Annan will see this petition and say to himself: " "Hotguy4U" and "SwEeTgRL12" both signed this petition...Maybe I better start supporting genocide"

And, yes, Nazis are mentioned.

Enjoy!

Heh. I used to have a nation. Then I forgot about it for a few weeks, and when I came back, they'd erased my account.

"Hotguy4U" and "SwEeTgRL12" both signed this petition...Maybe I better start supporting genocide

Hee!

There are parts of the world where Christians are persecuted and enslaved. This is a documented fact. See here here here and here.

No, the UN doesn't help these people. The UN doesn't help a great many people. The problem still exists.

The UN doesn't help a great many people.

I think that's their mission statement.
"The UN. We're pretty much pointless."

Thank you for pointing that out. Wouldn't want to be Christian in Papua New Guinea, either, just to name a country very close to home.

I didn't need to click on the links - there was more than enough wank in the post itself. Rule for today, kiddies: just because you are shockingly ignorant of world events doesn't mean world events don't exist.

So you think the UN's motto should be "We help Christians?" Seems a little NARROW to me. Perhaps you've missed all the other people that are being persecuted in this world. Exactly how is setting up a useless e-petiton that targets only one religious group supposed to help the world?

Rule for today, kiddie: just because you are shockingly ignorant of people in this world who aren't Christian doesn't mean that non-Christians don't exist.

I could point out many instances where Christians have persecuted others over the centuries. Big whoop.

Setting up some lame-ass e-petition and blaming the UN for everything that's wrong in this world will not solve the world's problems.

Have a nice day.

Seeing as I've never seen a centuries old Christian, I'm thinking holding a presently suffering Christian directly accountable is silly. I'm not so much interested in the religion as the suffering.

Never known an online petition to work either. However, I do sympathize with the sentiment.

Oooh, NationStates. Yes, the forums are *incredibly* wanky... I was wondering if they'd ever be reported here. But I don't RP much, so...

Gods yes! I avoid the forums like the plague because they're so damn wanky. When I first got my nation, I tried to post there, but gave up when my reaction to most of the posts was "wait, but that doesn't make any sen... oh, nevermind. *grumble*"

BTW, since we're pimping... I'm the proud leader of a Capitalist Paradise.

I'm trying to make myself feel bad about the persecution of Christians. But I can't. Because in the US, Christianity is what's right and all that's right and so gays shouldn't be allowed to marry and prayer should be in public schools and we need to teach Christian morals and values to all children and Islam is evil and I could go on and on and on. It sucks that people are being persecuted anywhere, but I tend to find it ridiculous for Christians in this country to cry about any sort of persecution.

Even with evils in the world caused by a group of people:

1) people in that group aren't individually responsable for all of them.

2) even if they are responsable for some of them, they don't deserved being raped or having their homes burned down or beaten or arrensted or killed for belonging to that group.

There are many people suffering in the world. They don't deserve it, even if we don't like them.

Yes, indeed. So why just worry about Christians? (That's what the OP in the NationStates forum was doing, and that's what was extremely wanky, IMO. There are people of many religious backgrounds (and non-religious ones) who are being persecuted.)

Well, I think you focus on one group of people because it's easier to help them if they're in smaller, localized chunks. You "feed the Jews in Russia" and "Educate the women of Afghanistan" and "return land to the indigenous herdsmen," because individually, those are more attainable goals than "stop all suffering everywhere."

But the OP wanted to stop the suffering of all Christians everywhere with the UN... which is more stupid than intentionally wanky, and then was later wanky when people didn't think all Christians everywhere suffer that much, and pointed out a petition wouldn't do crap.

If she focused in on one problem, like enslavement one place or starvation another, and also looked into the charities that already help, I'd be more supportive of her, and I think the wank wouldn't have happened.

I agree, to an extent.

There probably would still have been wank, though, because when a poster purposely concentrates on only (for example) left-handed-blue-eyed-martians-with-one-antenna, all the NON-left-handed-blue-eyed-martians-with-one-antenna wank into the yard.

Christians who are being killed and/or imprisoned? Sad, and I feel bad for them, though slightly less so for the ones who call themselves 'missionaries' and get themselves into killed and/or imprisoned situations by aggressively sticking their noses where not wanted.

Christians who cry 'persecution' when they aren't allowed to whip out their prayer dick at every available public, government-sponsored occasion in a country where they already control the majority of the public and the elected officials? Who think they're persecuted because their particular brand of creation myth isn't taught in the schools? Who think oppression is not being allowed to whup their kids into the emergency room in the name of good old-fashioned family discipline? Sad, but in a completely different way....

Why did you make this?
Because it seemed like a fun idea, and a way to let people know about my novel Jennifer Government. With luck, some of the people who play NationStates will buy the book. Then my publisher will think I am a left-field marketing genius, instead of a chump who blew four months on a web game when he should have been working on his next novel.

I like this guy. I probably won't buy his book, but I like him.
