More Mac wank!
Never thought I'd find more . . . anyway. I followed the not_kosher thread to macintosh, and from there I went to macosx, not expecting to find wank, but it usually shows up when you're not looking for it.

First off, we have coolstring, who posts to the community warning people about the newest Windows worm. "I know this is a mac community, however, I also know you all must have at least one friend you can tell about this"

"I know this is a mac community"—Big mistake. First comment? "It doesn't affect Mac users. Maybe if we let people suffer, they eventually will realize Microsoft Windows is a bad idea.
However, if we help them protect their systems, they'll go on feeling safe.
They made their choice to run windows. Let them suffer.
Oh, and your post is way off topic for this community."

Folks, it just gets better after that.

Exhibit number two:

onieromancy asks: For my film class I need to make a music video featuring Kill Bill Volume 1. Which means I need to find a way to get the DVD (probably encrypted) onto my computer and into either Final Cut or iMovie, though probably both. I'm having a hard time finding software to do this. Any help, please?

Cue the wank, which takes on so many delicious varities: The "you DO know this is illegal and you're going to get flamed, right?" to the "all the elitists just talk shit and whine and complain instead of helping the person out" to the pouting "Gee whiz, 'I thought maybe I might get some help here. Thanks guys'" to the people who actually tell the OP how to rip DVDs. *thumbs up*

Great fun to be had by all.

The heathens must burn in a RIVER OF FIRE until their souls are purified and they choose the ONLY true path!
And sure, while they're burning in that river of fire, they'll have over a dozen racks of games and software to choose from, while we maybe have six shelves and they're probably stuck at the back of the store, but dammit if we aren't still SO DAMN SUPERIOR!
(... I like making fun of people with Mac superiority complexes, does it show? ^.^)

Word. I never got why some Mac users are so smug and rabid. Dude, get over yourself.

There's that whole thing of them claiming Macs are more stable and will NEVAH EVAH CRASH NOT EVEN IF YOU INSTALL A BAZILLION VIRUSES SPECIFICALLY WRITTEN FOR THAT COMPUTER BECAUSE MACS DON'T CRASH!!!!!!
Even if it were true, my thought would be "Okay, so, they don't crash. Good for them. Can they do anything else?"
"Uh... well... I think they promised that they might adapt Doom: Knee Deep In the Dead for Mac sometime in 2006..."

I've always used Windoze at home, and Macs at school/at a friend's. While they don't crash as often and as violently, they sure as hell crash. What planet are these guys living on?

If they are claiming that, then they've never used the Macs that my school has in the communications department.

Or the hideous mac/pc that my school had *shudders* Mac on one side PC on the other. It hurt.

Yeah, really. All the computers in my college's newspaper office are Macs, and back when I was on the staff those fuckers crashed or froze every five seconds. Half the time they'd stop working entirely and we ended up having to lay out the entire paper on one machine (which would then start randomly freezing up, sending all of us into nigh-homicidal rages).

Well, to briefly turn into Defensive Mac User, I'm a console gamer, so that kind of thing doesn't bother me. And I've never had trouble finding applications for all the actual functions I need my computer for.

So, the stability is worth it to some of us, although yes, if you're a PC gamer, it's definitely not the right computer for you. *shrug*

Macs have their good points, I'm quite willing to agree to that. It's just that they are not the Computer To End All Computers that some of their more rabid fans make them out to be.

*nod* Agreed. It's certainly the best computer for me, but I am not everyone.

(And I am disappointed that there's no Mac version of Ragnarok Online, but my GPA is probably better off for it.)

I think it's similar to why small dogs are louder and more aggressive: inferiority complexes. They're REBELS OMG and therefore they've turned their choice of computer into a MAJOR RELIGIOUS DECISION.

I mean, dude, the Amiga crowd is as bad...

It's worse in a way. The most rabid Amiga fans make the Mac zealots look like stable well adjusted individuals. And OS/2 fans make the Amiga fans look normal. The smaller and more niche your operating system, the more insanely defensive you must be, apparently.

Indeed. I'm a PC/Windows user, in a family of severe computer geeks who first worshipped at the Altar of Mac, and now have gone on to preach the Holy Word of Open Source Linux, and how it will fix all things.

You know, I get defensive when people insult my Mac, but I don't feel the need to make it a goddamned Holy Crusade To Smite The Windows Heathens or anything.

Thanks for making the rest of us look bad, asshat!

(...besides, don't these people realize that the reason so few viruses target Macs is because such a small percentage of the world uses them? If everyone switches over, we'll lose the protection of our small numbers.)

Agreeing with my Mac-fellows above.

Stop making Mac users look like a bunch of psychotic assholes with a superiority complex the size of China! You deserve stabbity death, mothafucka. And to be tied to your iMac and dropped in a lake.
