Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
This is my first go at this, so hope this is ok... This is quite an elderly wank, so I hope it hasn't been posted before - I've only just stumbled across it.

Someone posts on lj that after their bunny died they cooked it and ate it. Cue lots of comments along the lines of this one:

how COULD you? how could you have the nerve to post something as morally WRONG as that? You cannot possibly be sitting at home thinking "Oh, gee, my pet, that I admittingly even remotely didnt hate died, so I think i'll eat it." ?? First off, Im not a vegitarian, but I am VERy against animal cruelty.

If your friend died, would you cook it? or would you rather they be cremated,or buried, and have a normal funeral? I dont know about you but I certaintly would NOT eat a friend, and if you say you care so much then obviously your deceased lil buddy was a friend to you.

In conclusion -> YOU ARE DISGUSTING AND SHOULD BE LOCKED UP !

In general there are lots of capital letters and exclamation marks. But I liked this comment:
Man, I hope you don't join my soccer team just before we fly somewhere....

I haven't read beyond the first page - and there are 29 of them.

Rats. Always knew I was unoriginal.

Think of it as a reminder of bygone wanks?

My only real qualm would be, uh, what did Bun-Bun die of? I mean, it's not so much a matter of morals but cleanliness!

Screw the ASPCA, I'm calling the Board of Health.

Okay. Question. Someone want to clarfify for me whether people're objecting to eating a pet, or to eating any fluffy bunny wabbit in general? Because I understand the first, but uh. Yeah.

Yeah, it's Fluffy Bunny Wabbit syndrome. Brought on by reading 'Peter Rabbit' or watching 'Bambi' one too many times. Hey, have ya'll seen Peter and Thumper lately?! And what's with that dill sauce?

See, that's always kinda bizarre to me, because rabbit with prunes is a classic dish in Belgium. Then again, we also eat horse.

I don't see why you shouldn't. They're not much bloody use for anything else.

I hate horses.

I seem to recall it being rather tasty.

Mind you, I am veggie-turned-rabid-carnivore and these days eat anything that looks like it might have been adored while it was alive.

How can anyone hate horses? I can understand being afraid of them, as they're awfully big if you're not used to being around them, but they're just so...awesome

Both rabbits and horses are yummy! So are whales. Seals are a bit smelly and taste of fish, but seal soup is good.

Killing rabbits is something of a national pastime in Australia (we have them in plague proportions and they devastate the land) so the fluffy bunny mindset is pretty bizarre to me too. Unfortunately we can't eat them all because of calicivirus, but I've eaten healthy ones in my time.

I don't think we eat horse here, but we do cop a bit of international attention for eating kangaroos, probably because they're cute and furry. They can also kick you to death, and one tried to run me off the road a few years back, so I don't feel very sorry for them.

Dill sauce on rabbit? Rabbit needs more of a lighter taste than dill...

Just the barest bit of dill in an Italian dressing type marinade. Then shish-ke-babed over a flame. Mmmmm.

(Or is that chicken? I don't remember, it's been years!)

I confess to still being puzzled as to why eating an animal after it has already died is morally wrong. Would the same person have been so up in arms if it had been, say, his beloved pet chicken? (Or perhaps his beloved pet soybean?)

I wouldn't eat my pet rabbit after it died of natural causes. I'd kill it fresh.

What seems interesting to me is that the hard line "OMG don't eat teh bunniez!" camp seems mostly to be young teens. Ah, for the days when I was young and stupid and the keeper of The One True, um, Truth.

But quite frankly, if one of my actual human friends made it his/her last dying wish to be the main dish at a banquet in his/her honor, I would have at least a little taste. So I guess that I'm a sick fuck, too.

I don't eat any meat, so I wouldn't, but when I read the "soccer team" comment, I did think, well, if it's a choice between eating my already dead body and starving, then by all means, have a leg! Maybe I'm just weird.

Oh, I remember that wank.

I thought it was kind of sweet, though not how I'd honour my pets.

Then it turned out he'd made the thing up to see how people would react.

What I remember most is that most of the vegans posting were, like me, not bugged by the idea. Go team vegan!
