And there shall be wank amongst the wank...
It all starts when rann makes a posting in fandom_wank that might have a bit of a political slant to it. oulangi makes a comment on conservative knee-jerking, melange jumps in, and wank ensues. Things even go so far as to the creation of a new community - political_wank by iczer6, who doesn't like getting politics in their fandom yay. Wannabe moderators do need apply.

Oh, the wankable wankers. wut fun.

Politics is such a rich ground for wank whether it be of the fandom or non-fandom variety and there's no guarantee that the new comm will let the discussion and it's OT sprogs flow as freely as they do on f_w. Also, people don't usually participate in those f_w off-shoot communities to the same degree they do f_w itself.

As the creator I can assure you that I will do abosolutely nothing to contain the wank.

I created the community because if I wanted to watch democrats and republicans tear into each I could just turn on CNN or watch the debates.

Besides trying to figure out the inner workings of the HP and LoTR fandoms is complicated and confusing enough.

At the end of the day, it seems to come down to:

HP: Batshit insane sex maniacs obsessed with the popularity of their fics.

LOTR: Batshit insane "canon purity" maniacs obsessed with how pretentiously they can write.

There are a few outside the matrix, but generally that simplifies it down a lot. Or maybe reading too much bad fic in both fandoms has rotted my brain.

Hmmmm... Not insane - just a tad crazy; not a sex maniac; and never wrote a fic (unless drabbles and/or RP entries count); hate fame and anything resembling "celebrity" (read: no desire to become famous or even remotely well-known), and therefore don't care if anything I might write (or have written) is popular...
