Not so much wank as just plain sad
Over at Childfree Bludstone asks for advice about dealing with her neightbor's kid.

See these are *good parents* who disciplin thier daughter by locking her out of their apartment when she misbehaves.

Basically they throw her in the hall and leave her there while she cries.

Her crying bothers Bludstone who the asks what she/he should do about it.

Just about everyone tells her to contact the police or the CPS because most people consider locking ones child out of their house to be abuse.

Of course this isn't what Bludstone wanted to hear...

I know I sure wouldn't give a single shit about the kidnapping of some kid. There's just too many on this Earth already, to bother worrying about any single one to such an extent.

That's just more wank waiting to happen right there...

In our defense the majority of the posters are telling her to call *someone* about the situation.

We're not all like that! Really.

I don't think child-free started off as child-hate, but that is what a large majority of people I've met from that community act like. Not all who post there feel that way most likely, I'm sure, but people remember those militant idiots more than those select few.

Yeah, childfree tends to be a troll magnet. At one point LJ Drama was quite publicly and actively trolling them (in their "troll contest" and likely still doing it outside of it).

Only hovering? I'm resisting the urge to hit post comment right now, as I've already typed something up.

... And it's probably a good thing that I just realized I'm not logged into my fanfic journal, rather then my personal journal before attempting to click. Resuming resisting urges now... >.>;;

Oh wow, it's coming from all directions here, innit?

"Gee, I think this is kind of a shitty way to treat a kid, but doing something about it would, like, take effort."
"OMG do you not SEE how SHITTY that is?! You fiend!!!!11one! You must SAVE TEH BAYBEE!"
"You all suck and if this random kid is kidnapped and murdered I will LAUGH!"

Jeepers, people.

I don't think anyone's saying she should make it a personal crusade but I think she do *something*.

I'm morbidly amused by her insistence that since the girl's in an enclosed area she'll be fine.

Because nothing bad ever happens when you're *inside* a building.

Nah, I think that's the least idiotic leg of the tripod ;) It's mainly the fact of EVERYBODY jumping in to echo each other that amuses me.

But I agree leaving the poor brat to howl and/or be abducted and/or fall down the stairs is not cool.

I don't get that she's in a particularly unsafe place. Kids play outside in their yards and parking lots and apartment hallways all the time, depending on the neighborhood. I don't think you can make a good case for that being physical neglect because the child is sitting in the hallway for 10-15 minutes. As long as he's yelling, then he's obviously still there by the door.

Psychologically? It's abusive.

While I agree with the commenters, is anyone else sick of all those posts on childfree that begin "I'm not childfree, but I want to complain about this kid because that's what you guys do here"? I supppose Bludstone is 'semi-fluent' in childfreedom.

Rather, yes. While I also find most of the CFers' posts complaining about kids irritating (especially when the kids' offenses are things like "not being absolutely dead quiet during a children's movie" and "being less than a year old and in the same public place as the poster"), I will admit that they at least have a legitimate reason to belong to childfree. People who join who aren't CF but just like bashing kids appear to be totally missing the point

I wouldn't be overly worried about the chance of molesters or psycho would be mums happening by in a hallway on the 15th floor, if the kid is locked out only for a while and rarely so.

But what the parents do still IS neglectful and damaging, just like that, without any further misfortune.

Actually, other then this one disciplinary action; they are very good parents, from what ive seen. (reading to their child, teaching manners, helping with school work, ect) I can hear most everything that goes on in their apartment (although i do tend to blank it out.) Ive never heard the family seriously fight before. And Ive not heard anything to suggest physical violence is active.

Because, you know, it's unpossible to abuse a child without loud noises.

I have no problems with "putting up" with crying from inside their apartment (i have a loud stereo, so I consider it a trade-off)

Mmmyeah, because adding that much more noise to bother your other neighbors is a totally just and equitable solution. Good deal.

Yes. And considering how easy it is to turn off your child, it's totally valid to compare a child to a stereo.

Heh. Given how s/he talks about the stereo, I'm not sure s/he's aware that it can be turned down, either. It just came like that, you know. The quiet models were all sold out. And the ones with volume control, geez! What do you think s/he is, made of money?

All I hear from this thread is "moo, moo, moo." So quick to bitch someone out who doesn't instantly jump to protect the precious children. You're all acting like the kind of people you rant about here.

Yeah. Ass. Hat.

Because a kid that's all fucked up from abuse is the one who's going to be caring for you in the nursing home, and I'm sure you really want that.

Well I can see where he's coming from. I mean it is annoying that the comm members are telling her that she should do the right thing, even if it is a pain in the ass.

Because we know that if you don't want or have kids of your own you couldn't possibly care for their welfare.

I don't really have any links to any of it. He doesn't really wank much in communities anymore, though he used to. All his wanks were much of the "I like both subs and dubs so I'm better than you plebes who prefer one or the other" or "I only buy commercial anime, so I'm better than you dirty pirates/fithy fansubbers/disrespectful importers" varieties. I'm fairly sure he spooged in a friends LJ when FMA got liscensed, but I was so disgusted by the antics in that particular post (where the people mocking the fangirls who were upset over FMA liscensing were as spoogy as the fangirls themselves) that I probably missed it.

Oooh, I'm in this one! I'm in this one!

Bludstone keeps insisting, that s/he wants to do something, but not anything inconvenient. And if s/he gets anyone involved, either the kid or the parents will be brutally ripped away from the loving family. Also, they are in fact good parents, because the walls are thin and therefore if they abused their child, s/he would be able to hear it!

Yes, this did hit one of my bitch buttons. Why do you ask?

I'm just sort of gobsmacked at the "I want to do something! But not anything that will require me to do anything serious or treat this like anything more than a noise complaint!" attitude. One wonders if bludstone would care at all if the kid was quietly being psychologically abused.

I'm surprised nobody's suggested just duct-taping her mouth shut. I mean, it'd solve the noise!

I despised the 'But they're good parents! They don't beat her or starve her or anything! They read to their kid! And lock her out instead of actually disciplining her, but OMG they're good parents and if I say anything the POLICE will take them away and traumatise the little girl for LIFE!!!1' part of it.

And I get the impression that if it weren't for the screaming, Bludstone would be happy with the entire situation. S/he seems to be confused that we didn't come over all 'GRRR! That's one little brat that's gonna be scarred for life! MWAHAHAHA!' or maybe 'Don't do anything. It's not your problem', but tried to give advice and then leapt down his/her throat when s/he protested against doing anything.

Shit, I think I just gave away the entire thing.

Adrienne.
