July 2008 Newsletter, vol. 14 Mirrored from otw_news on LJ Welcome to the second July issue of the OTW Newsletter! We're constantly on the lookout for ways to keep fandom up-to-date and informed about what's going on behind the scenes here at OTW, so twice a month, Community Relations compiles updates about what the various committees are working on and we share them here. All issues of the newsletter will be tagged accordingly, so you can follow our progress chronologically. Academic Journal Update from No update at this time. Accessibility, Design, and Technology AD&T wishes to advise that Post/Manage Series is up and running, the rich text editor is integrated (we can post *pretty things*), and we're working on adding search features! Board Update from Francesca Coppa The board continues to work with all the other OTW committees; additionally, Board Member Rebecca Tushnet worked on the Best Practices in Fair Use for Online Video just released by the Center for Social Media. Rebecca also did an interview about fanfiction and the OTW with National Public Radio yesterday; the interview (about 9 minutes) is linked from the website Community Relations Update from Community Relations continues to work on outreach plans for the upcoming wiki and archive launches, as well as prepare for a few upcoming additions to the website. Content Policy Update from The release of our draft is imminent, so keep your eyes open! Development and Membership Update from What HAVEN'T we been doing? Now serving the OTW from three continents and at least that many disparate time zones, we've still been managing to meet and carry out our duties as planned. Some donation/new member acknowledgment e-mails recently went out, we're ready to move forward on swag research, we've finalized our third-party fundraiser guidelines, and you can expect some updates from us in the next version of the OTW website. Elections No update at this time. Financials No update at this time. Legal Update from The Legal Committee has completed a review of Terms and Conditions and related policies for potential dedicated hosts, and made its recommendations to the Board. We have also consulte on some of the legal terms used in the glossary being developed for the website, and provided clarification on a few specific matters. We continue to support other committees with advice on potential related legal issues and aim to respond promptly to queries from members of the public as they arise. Open Doors Update from Francesca Coppa The Open Doors project continues to work closely with ADT to plan features for backing up content. Public Relations Update from No update at this time. Systems Update from Systems continues to work on training, security patches, helping out the website team, and the day-to-day magic of making computers not go boom. Translations Update from No update at this time. Volunteers and Recruiting from Volunteers has been busy with a new round of coders, wiki volunteers, and the search for a swag researcher.
