Last month, Dr. Pepper promised to give out free Dr. Pepper after Guns N Roses finally put out their Chinese Democracy Album. It was discussed in the lounge here.

Well, the band is not happy about it and have lawyered up looking for an apology.

I'm coming up with a mix CD for a friend for Christmas and this year's theme involves dedicating it to his 7th Sea character. I've got workable music so far, but I'm curious if anyone can recommend some non-Christmas Trans-Siberian Orchestra (if such a thing exists) that I could give a potential listen to.

I suspect LiveJournal is no longer sending comments on my comments to my email. There's plenty of room, and I checked the spam folder. I think someone on wow_ladies made a post about it, and I've waded through the last 100 entries with absolutely no luck of finding it.

Does anyone on here happen to know how to fix the issue?

Thank you, very much.
*bows humbly*

I think this is the first time I've ever seen a real news story where the headline started out "Japanese schoolgirl."

Dr. Pepper to honor free soda promise.

"The soft-drink maker said in March that it would give a free soda to everyone in America if the album dropped in 2008. "Chinese Democracy," infamously delayed since recording began in 1994, goes on sale Sunday."

I'm so getting my coupon.

Joe the Plumber's website.

The 90s website is back, but now with extra jingoistic nationalism! You can either get a free "We Are Joe" basic membership, but for $14.95, you, privileged website visitor you are, can read his blog and belong to his super-exclusive forum.

"We wish our new president blessings of wisdom and good judgment, and we pray he hearkens to our voice if ever we feel our American Dream is being threatened. It will be a loud voice, so good luck trying to ignore it."

The Presidential Earplugs will not be a match for you, Joe.

Also, his Book Cover is Pastde On Yay!

For anyone who thinks the new LJ profile is ugly there's now a greasemonkey script to fix it.

It doesn't give you the old profile back but it does get rid of some of the more annoying features of the new profile like all the lines and all those stats that they shoved to the top of the screen.

It basically makes the new profile look a lot better.

I know this isn't a music-sharing community (does JF even have one?), but I figured if anyone would know they'd be here.  Can anybody point me in the direction of some decent modern German-language music?  Preferably not too heavy.  Danke!

Edit: By which I mean, pop/rock/whatnot.  Like Die Toten Hosen, only more than just them, because while they are quite good I'm sure there's more out there.  Somewhere.  This is for a German Club table at a university International Bazaar type thing, if that helps.  Nobody in the club could think of modern German artists that didn't sing in English, or at least sang some in German.

Where I am, it's still October 31st, so November isn't quite here yet, but it will be very soon. And we all know what November brings, right?

So, who's participating in NaNoWriMo this year? Is this your first time or are you a seasoned veteran at this?

I'm going to take a crack at it this year, for the first time. I'm a wee bit nervous, as I can't seem to decide what to write about or how to get started, but I understand that this is normal, so I'm not too terribly worried.

(wasn't quite sure where to post this, as it's not necessarily about fandom. If I've erred, please direct me to where I should be posting this?)

I'm not really sure where this should go, so I figured I'd try here.

Is anyone else vaguely (or strongly) creeped out by the new Volkswagon ad campaign starring Brooke Shields? You know, people are getting pregnant so they can buy a new Volkswagon? Maybe it's me, but the ads themselves are a bit squicky, and get even worse when factoring in Brooke Sheild's own history of post-partum depression.

Reassurance I'm not insane?

If you haven't seen any of the ads, here's one.

Just yesterday I got the Adblock add-on for Firefox because I decided it was time to stop living in the stone age. My friend who walked me through it had me put on a line of something or another in the preferences thingy to cockblock LJ. Everything was grand! Today I load up Firefox annnnd 90% of my bookmarks are GONE (AUUUGH) and it's asking me to pick a new bracket of blocks again, and now every time I try to read my email (I use gmail) it's yelling at me that the page is encrypted. What is going on? Do I need to add that line of whatever again? (Said friend is not available, I'm not sure what it was, it was google something or another).

The U-17 Women's World Cup is starting tomorrow in New Zealand. Live matches (if you're in Europe) can be caught on Eurosport, but also this looks promising.

FIFA.com TV offers you the chance to watch all the matches of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2008 LIVE and for FREE in certain territories.

I'm not sure how well it'll work, and the territories listed are only European and African nations, which I don't quite understand. But hey, even if you're in the Americas or Asia, you can still "Follow the drama of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2008 with FIFA.com's MatchCast. FIFA's Official Data feed gives you instant updates on what is happening on the pitch." ;-)

Hooray for youth soccer!

... according to some British Police. Not unfunny business yet (unless you go looking for it at conservative blogs), but still ridiculous. As one commenter at Scheiner's blog put it:

This is the stupidest idea I've run across in quite some time. Why would terrorists hide incriminating messages inside incriminating photographs? That would be like drug smugglers hiding kilos of cocaine in bales of marijuana.

If terrorists really wanted to communicate using hidden messages inside images, they'd post them to icanhascheezburger.
