Dear obnoxious people in the dorms,

You have seen snow before. Snowfall is not some new, fascinating thing to you. We had a snowstorm (yes, I know it was only 7 inches, but that's a LOT for this area) just last week. Therefore, you really have no fucking excuse for running around, screaming, and generally being assholes at 2 o'clock in the morning just because it's OMG SNOWING. The fact that school might be canceled doesn't mean the rest of us don't still want to get a good night's sleep. I'm sure you're the first people to complain when others are keeping YOU awake. STFU or next time I'm calling campus police on your ass.

No love,
HlR

See, this is where I envy you people up north: you get snow days. Around here, inclement weather is a rarity, even if floods are regular occurrences. Hell, just yesterday, campus turned into a lake. I still had to trudge through it.

Actually, snow days are very very rare here (even though NKU has a very high proportion of commuters to residents). I think the only reason we got off today is because the county declared a snow emergency and because there's so much ice (it's raining, but freezing as soon as it hits the ground). Still, some is better than none.

When I lived in Colorado, we didn't get snow days unless there was like, at least three feet coming down. Since it actually snows, they're actually ready to deal with it most of the time, so instead of a day off we get "it's only two feet, shut up and take it like a boy scout!"

I've gotten two unschedule days off in the last four years. One, because it was -16 F out a few weeks ago (-11 the next day was fine, though), and another because a pipe burst. No amount of snow has stopped me from going to school since I started going to public. It makes me sad.

I've never had a snow day. I've had days when my absence didn't get marked down because my driveway was blocked with three feet of snow and it was too cold for the tractor to start, or school-optional days, but snow days? Never.

*mourns in her cold subarctic fastness*

It may look like snow to you, but actually, it's coke. It's the only possible explaination for their behaviour.

And yes, it's probably got some crack mixed in. One of my friends yelled out the window for them to shut up and they threatened to kill her. Asses.

Is there any kind of security on your campus? Cos that's...not funny anymore.

*becomes slightly overprotective*

Oh yeah, we have a police department. Problem is, the cowards who were bring noisy ran inside shortly after my friend shouted at them. If they go at it again tonight, she's calling campus police and not bothering to try and get them to shut up.

Also, since I think we're suffering the same storm-related jackasses right now, I'd like to say:

Oi, dickweeds sneering about how snow--which yes, is deep for this part of the country--in February disproves global warming. Are you conveniently forgetting that it was close to sixty Fahrenheit for more of December and January than not? Please to be shutting up now.

Yeah, seriously. For a while, we were despairing that we'd never see a flake of snow ever again. Even with the cold right now, the fact remains that winter has overall been short and comparitively mild. We didn't have a significant snowfall til January, which speaks volumes.

I spent a muddy Christmas and I'm in Ontario. Heck, a city in Quebec had to make fake snow to turn a commercial in January. Fake snow, in Quebec! wtf!?

I'm still mystified that anyone can still get excited about snow. Maybe it's just the fact that I spend 20 minutes every time I want to go somewhere scraping off the car that ruins the magic.

I guess it's because they like to build snow penises. Who knows? I want to build snow tits just to be different.

Dear snow,
Please come to Savannah. I'll even put up with idiot art students screaming outside at 2AM (because they do it, anyway >_>).

You can have the snow. I won't curse you with the ice, though. *g* It was fun walking to and from dinner today. They haven't bothered salting the sidewalks because it has not stopped raining since at least 3 AM last night.

Yeah, I grew up in New York. I understand the ice and it says it wants me dead.

The ice almost killed me ded walking from dinner. It's been causing problems with downed trees and stuff at home- our neighbour had part of her fence wrecked by a fallen limb, and a family friend of ours had part of her house's siding torn off by an icy limb. Not fun. I am surprised (and VERY grateful) that our power hasn't gone out yet. My ma said she would have stayed the night with me last night if our power at home had gone out *g*

You're tolerant. If I hear anything past the 1:00 quiet time, they get three warnings or ten minutes before I'm calling my floor advisor to kick them out.

All our RA wanted to do was threaten to write them up. I was like, fuck that, just call campus police.

Walking back from lunch today, the people in front of me were talking. One guy said he had to do community service, because "I got cited for being passed out in the hallway, and urinating against a door. I don't even remember doing it!" Every other week I hear someone at the mailbox go, "They can't kick me out! I wasn't THAT drunk!"

If I thought they'd appreciate it at all, I'd sacrifice a small sheep on the Residence Services desk for the hardass line they take.
