In practice, after countless years of wars and political struggle, the mastermind designed a city built to thrive in spite of the passage of time. It built over the ruins of open conflict, turning casualties of mortars into the foundations of a scintillating city. It instilled rules and regulations and brought humans prosperity in exchange for obedience.

As in the Bible, those who did not obey were thrown out of Paradise.

The idea is that you post in whatever language you want to play in, and hopefully other people who also speak that language will respond, and we can all have educational fun! Or something like that.

Native speakers of non-English languages are also welcome, as long as they're okay with playing with non-native speakers who may make mistakes.

It's a bit of an experimental idea, but I think it could be fun if it ever took off, so.

I feel bad having two of my posts in a row, but oh well!

I've been on the hunt for the perfect RPG for me and haven't found something I felt that clicked for me. Does anyone know of any good Sakura Taisen/Sakura Wars RPGs? I've only found one and it's pretty much dead. Thanks in advance!

Looking for RPG

Hey, I was looking for some journal based RPGs that are for original characters, but I'm not opposed to fandom characters being in the mix if a game like that exists. I'm looking for one that fits any of these themes: Post-apocalypse (without fairies and vampies, no offense), band/Jrock/Jpop/music, suvival horror, and mafia/yakuza. Oddly enough, I've been having trouble finding these. Everything is panfandom, dead or vampires.

If I can't find something that fits my wants, you might see me pimping out my own game here very shortly. :)

Thanks for any and all help!

Testing the Waters...

I'm thinking of setting up a pan-fandom game (for those of you unfamiliar with the term pan-fandom refers to a game that in-cooperates characters from multiple fandoms), however I'm unsure if to use a board or journal format.

I prefer board role playing for multiple reasons (less time consuming for players as they don't need to set-up entire journals, and I think they give off better sense of setting as you can divide the forum into sections of the "world" and include descriptions), however I notice on journals (like live or insane) pan-fandoms dominate. While I have yet to see a pan-fandom hosted on a board. Is there a reason for this, or is it just coincidence? If the game is more likely to succeed journal based, I would make it journal based despite my own personal preferences.

Histories: Logical vs. Dramatic

Is it just me or do a lot of people mistake drama for quality in applications? As an admin I've looked over quite a bit of applications and it's a definite trend across fandoms. Well actually until recently before my canon list was pretty much filled at my Death Note RPG I was getting good applications all around. Then people started coming in applying for these originals (not a dive at originals as actually one of my players does exceptional original characters) that were...

I'll give you an example, while this application had quite a few problems with it, I'll bold what caught my immediate attention and provide the entire paragraph for context:

"Haruki was born in Japan, Kyoto. Her father - Masao Egami was japanese, mother Anna Egami - german. Anna was transported to japan to be a sex-slave, but after Masao made her pregnant, she talked him into marriage and pretending to be a nice family. Guess what? They failed. Masao`s payment from work was obviously not enough for both of them - little by little they became anti-social. Masao was always tired and angry, even after Haruki`s birth the conflicts and fights were a frequent matter. After three years someone from the neighborhood called social care officers who settled it - Masao and Anna went to jail considered guilty for many thefts and child mental abuse, as for Haruki, she`s been sent to a local orphanage, where she lived for the next five years."

Would it be so hard just to say "her parents got married, had a baby, realized they didn't actually want to be married (insert various logical reasons here) but divorce was not an option as (insert logical reasons here). Due to the stress of their crumbling relationship and economic status they turned to thievery and began to take their stress out on their daughter." Something along those lines? Something that makes more sense than her mother came to Japan as a sex slave who for some reason wanted to marry the character's father for unknown reasons? Why even include that at all?!

I mean, what kind of view does this player have of Japan and the Japanese?!

On with another example of "not thinking things through before writing"...

To provide a little context the game takes place at an orphanage for genius children, basically they're being trained to be the next "L", the world's greatest detective. Please keep in mind that this is a place where justice is a revered (though often skewed)concept.

Unfortunately I'll have to provide nearly the whole history, but it's fairly short and once again I'll bold what really stood out to me.

"Neo was born in America but at the age of two he and his parents moved to Japan, where he grew up at. At three years old, His parents was low on financial and money problems as their life took a turn for the worst. With no other alternative and the only option was being thrown on the streets, they were introduced to the mafia who loaned them money.

"Their money problems went away until they had to pay their dues to the mafia, and which they had no money, a hit was placed on for the parents. Neo's parents had learned about the hit and also learned a very important detail that could save the life of their child. The mafia had no information for Neo which meant that they didn't know anything of his existence.

"Neo's mother looked around while keeping her child a secret, for an orphanage. She eventually met with a man named Quillish Watari who told her about Wammy house in England for gifted children. She pretended to ask just for the heck of orphanages but she felt a strong feeling of friendliness and trust, therefore she released the information of Neo and her situation.

Watari agreed to have arrangements with the baby to be taken to England the next day. That night Neo was taken into the care of Watari with a picture of his parents and a note he could read when he learned to read. After they gave their baby up, the mafia found them at their house and shot them to death."

I was like "you seriously want me to believe Wammy would hear a story like this and would be just fine with the idea of taking the child and leaving the parents to die? No, just no." Not to mention everything else that was so glaringly wrong with the history.

Of course there's plenty of legal points I could get into too with this concept but as the person didn't even bother to include a required role play sample I just turned them down.

I mean yes in the game concept most of the characters will have to be orphans of all kinds. However as I've had plenty of people write logical histories without over stuffing them with drama I believe it is not a hard thing to do. I don't even really mind a tragic history if the resulting character acts as a reflection of their past and they're interesting. Both of these characters were so boring I was tempted to turn them down on that point alone.
Looking for an "A" from "Another Note"

Hello, has anyone ever played A from the spin off Death Note Novel "Another Note" before or would like to try? My A player has just dropped and I like to fill the position as quickly as possible. The site is here, our time line is located here, and our canon application is here. But please, do read the rules first.

Our A was never very active however he did interact with B (and in this case they're not friends but have a relationship much more like Near and Mello) and has interacted with one other student called F, but not to a great degree. He should be sixteen years old, however as the previous A was not very active I'll let the new player change his look and personality however they like. If you have any other questions please ask on the board or contact me via AIM (bitinglibertine) or MSN (small_birdy@live.com).

RPG Name:Bedlam

Link:http://bedlam.ipbfree.com/index.php?act=idx

Genre:Fandom;Death Note

Characters Wanted: Mad Doctor Yagami Raito. Other canons:Nurse Misa, Nurse Takada, Matsuda, Mikiami.

Playing Medium: Board

Rating: Mature, the game takes place inside an asylum so it may stretch some people's comfort limits.

Deadline on Applications:None

Contact: Admins on board.

A doctor’s pledge is to save lives... or, perhaps, assure a human’s right to live.
But what would one say to their right to die?
Could a person be given the choice to live or die, without any attached strings?

Dr. Yagami thought so-- assisted suicide wasn’t a crime, it was mercy.
Upon hearing the first cries of salvation from his patients,
he was sympathetic, and it wasn’t long before he began to grant their wishes.

Another doctor, by the name of L Lawliet, grew suspicious of these increasing deaths.
Lawliet, convinced that something foul was happening in the institution,
went to discover why patients were dropping like flies around him.

Yagami Raito, and L Lawliet.
The two men, who used to be such cooperative workmates,
were now restricted to stay within a yard-radius of one another--
and never step under that line, for they knew
that if they did... there was no assurance that the heart meter would line even beats.

Soon, two clearly defined lines are formed within the confines of the asylum:
Those who support Yagami, and those who support Lawliet.
The definition of right and wrong has become blurred;
sanity is a concept only dreamt of.

WELCOME TO BEDLAM.
(Death Rate: Constantly rising.)

Asking about Interest...

So, I have this game where a canon character (not a major canon but still a canon) mun hasn't been online for about five days now. It's a board RPG so its not necessary to post everyday. However I have another player who recently joined with an OC but who has played the canon character before and has expressed interest in playing them at this game. Usually I believe in waiting a week before I begin to try to track a mun down to ask whether they are still interested in playing.

I think this mun has been online though we are not good enough friends that I have their AIM and I only have their e-mail, but we hang out in the same fandom places. However is this enough time to start asking or too late or too early? I wait three weeks before I decide a person is MIA but that's usually only if it seems like they lost their internet for a very long time and have no way of telling me otherwise.

Thoughts on the situation?

A rant, of sorts?

I'mma poppin' this comms rant cherry. *deeeep breath*

Oh you, you awful awful bane of, of all things, a pretendy fun time meta community and seeming to only exist to harass Mega Man (Which there are so few GOOD ones out there, you're not helping my faith in finding anymore good ones btw) and Sonic players.

Seriously, just fuck off. The fact you got owned, politely, by one of the nicest people I know in IM while you were pretty much being an epic douchefuck about a mutual friend of hers and mine. Bonus is you ended up owned by her telling you that your so called "joke", yelling at said mutual friend in his game's Wanted Character post about "OMG U requested this canon instead of MOAR BURUSU", wasn't funny and that everyone who saw it saw it as an attack. Which, yanno, they did seeing that game's chat room collectively go "ugh" and ask "Is he even IN the game?" upon seeing that? Kind of proof that a lot of people think you're an idiot/douche/wtf r u doin'/etc. etc.

Also add to the fact you made a dressing room comm because... What? The already existing dressing room comm was, as you keep saying, "Poorly made and wah wah no one plays there!"? Well yeah, because it's the Mega Man Fandom! It's hard enough to find people who actually play it and from the ones I play with, including myself, tend to be more into plot heavy stuff. Not insulting the first DR for that, it just seems to be a fact I've noticed. That and I myself can barely be arsed with dressing rooms, so whatever. But the fact you seem to like to bring it up, no matter what is being talked about, almost everytime? Kind of jerky of you imo.

Oh and? Stop fucking saying you're going to app to my friend's game, that you seem to love to keep insulting to actual players in said game, anytime it's mentioned. Either fucking app or just fucking shut up about it. Although I'm pretty sure that if you do app you'll be rejected right out because before you've even joined up? You managed to piss off half the game merely by insulting the Head Mod, bravo. Bravo.

Here's hoping that you'll just take a long walk off a short pier soon instead.

X-Men: Comic AU

Some worlds were born with that wish, fracturing and spreading to all alternate time-lines, recreating themselves to fit into Wanda's desires, what she wished that was different about her life.

The resulting Decimation, reducing every world's population to no more than 10% of what it was was on her world, became the curse of every world.

Some had their histories rewritten, had always born the curse of The 198.

This is one such world.

In this world, Erik "Magnus" Lensherr was able to save his daughter Anya from that terrible fire, and Magda didn't run away. She was never pregnant with twins. Madga died young of cancer, and Erik was left to raise his daughter alone. It was Magda's death that prompted him to go to medical school, so that when he met Vietnam veteran Charles Francis Xavier in Israel, it was as a fellow doctor.

When Charles assembled his team of teenage mutant students in 1984, Erik, now calling himself Magneto, helped him. He helped build Cerebro and the base beneath the Mansion...and then he left to find his own path. He would drop in from time to time to visit, but never stayed long.

Scott Summers, Warren Worthington III, Bobby Drake, Hank McCoy and Jean Grey trained and adventured together for five years, christianed The X-Men and known as Cyclops, Angel, Iceman, Beast and Marvel Girl.

And their adventures continued.

Soon they were joined by others; a Canadian fighting machine with bones of metal, an African "goddess" who could command the weather, a Russian farm boy who could become living steel, a weathered Irish cop, and a young German acrobat.

Wanda's Wish uncreated a universe and remade it into something else.

Things that once were destined, never came to be.

Never having more than The 198 at any time, mutants had been on the brink of extinction since time began, though they themselves did not know it, nor did those who hated and feared them.

Only a very few know that the mutant species is limited to 198. A telepathic idealist, a Jewish Holocaust survivor who's devoted himself to saving mutantkind, a Scottish scientist, a century old madman who's thirst for power has twisted him from doctor into monster...

And a very old priest of very old gods, who waits until it is time to bring about his Revelation that could save his world and his people, his Apokalupsis.

We've just moved boards and are open for business! We have tonnes of high profile characters open:

Available Characters

Most Wanted:

Cyclops
Storm
Shadowcat
Wolverine
Havok
Cypher
Moonstar

And many more!

General Terms

One of the things I've noticed about RPing is there are several different names for the same concepts. To try to help newbies out there I'm going to ask other members to help expand and detail this preliminary list.

Character:

1. Entity played by a person in an RPG. Either these are original creations or ones borrowed from a fandom or a mix of both.

Other terms: Puppet, pup(short for "puppet"), sock, muse

Player:

1. The real person behind the character

Other terms: Mun (short for "mundane")

God-Modding:

1. Controlling another characters actions you do not own.

For example you own Character A and another player owns Character B.

You write:

A slams his fist into B's stomach causing him to reel back twelve feet.

Variations:

[1.]Meta-Gaming:When your character knows out of game information and uses it in-game to an unfair advantage.

Example:Your character prepares one day ahead for an attack that is suppose to be a surprise attack planned out of game to happen on the next day, and they are not psychic.

[2.]Power-Gaming:Having a superpowered character that can win any fight against other characters.

Other terms: Being a total newb, being a jackass

Out of character:

1. Refers to players interacting as themselves and not their characters.

Other terms: OOC, Out of Game, OOG

Mary Sue:

1. An unrealistic female character for the setting that is usually either very powerful, very desirable, or both. They usually come with a sob story in place of a interesting history and are usually original creations but not always. Yes, the dreaded scourge of fanfic exists in RP too.

Other terms: Gary Stu (male variation), BRPS (bad role players suck) fodder.

ICA = ICC

[1.]In Character Actions = In Character Consequences

Meaning if your character makes a mistake, they will pay for it.
If they are an asshole, they will pay for it.
If they shoot the messenger, they will pay for it.
If they flip off the tentative allies and cause an international incident, they will paaaaaaaaaaaay for it when my character starts beating them with their own spine.

Ping or Tag

[1.]When it's your turn to comment on a livejournal thread.

IC =/= OOC

[1.] The decree that the player's feelings shouldn't affect what happens in-game (examples of such: Character A's player hates Character B and plays A as hating B despite the fact that the characters are friends/respect each other/don't even interact in canon, Player X ships Y/Z and has their character try to push them together at the expense of Character W who likes Z, a player doesn't like a certain plot so their character scurries off to parts unknown or does something that keeps the plot from going further, one player hates another so they use their character as a snarktool)

Well that's all I got so far, but hopefully it grows into an informative and deatiled list.
