I love your dynamics in this; how the weariness and the exhaustion looms over everything. This is by far not a romantic story - comforting, yes, but not romantic. I love how you've layered it together; the almost bleak atmosphere works so very well here. This pairing certainly isn't one everyone can pull off (and it isn't one every genre works with, methinks). You've done a great job at this: you've convinced me they can really work. Beautiful. Your interaction, characterisation, plot and language just work together gorgeously.
