FIC: The Abundance of Her Charms (Snape/Luna)
To: meri_oddities
From: Your Secret Santa

Title: The Abundance Of Her Charms
Author: odogoddess (website)
Pairing: Snape/Luna
Summary: Abhorred in life, thinly admired in death, Severus Snape slowly discovers a sort of peace to be found in the company of a maddeningly perspicacious Ravenclaw.
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 16,730
Warnings: as requested, this mostly ignores the horribly treacly & completely illogical DH epilogue as well as the continually changing and often contradictory turdlets tidbits of trivia that JKR keeps burbling forth about in her chats. As of early November 2007, the date of Luna's birthday is unknown, so I felt free to just make it up for the purposes of this fic. This fic also contains truly atrocious Latin, pig Spanish, dollops of UST, as well as wankage, peepage, shaggage and baggage (h/c). Oh, and a character death...sort of, but NOTE: this is not a tragic fic. :)
Author's notes: I hope you enjoy this fic as well as a very happy holiday season, Meri!

This is the most amazing, marvelous, glorious—OMG, I *love* this story! I won't kill you with adjectives, but to read a love story set in the magical world that *attends to the magic* and develops things so completely and satisfyingly is a rare treat. You are brilliant, and this is love, pure love. I'm going to reread this again, at once. ♥

And I'm back again to say that this is a fabulous read—I love your Severus and Luna—even after the third time. :D Your description and characterization, the use of magic, all of it—I'm really in love with this story. *smooches*

An astoundingly beautiful piece that bridged the two-dimensional confines of Severus' portraiture to truly portray a great romance. Made my little Snape/Luna heart flutter madly.

Thank you so much mystery writer, for such a great gift! I totally win.

This was so good. I really love clever uses of magic and insights into the magical world and this story so completely fits the bill. Snape was a lot better off in his second life than he'd been in his first. *g*

I loved how Severus became more and more human even if he was a portrait. And I loved how Luna got closer and closer to him. I love a long slow build on a relationship and this was perfect. And I liked the end, because you were right, they ended up together forever, not just for a while.

Thank you again!

You're very welcome, Meri. I'm glad that you enjoyed reading it. I was hoping that an afterlife tale wouldn't be too sad for you or the holiday season, even though it's not intended to have a sad ending. I'm glad it fit at least some of your Likes. I'm especially glad you liked the ending! :)

I have to agree with the author: bringing Seveus back to life wouldn't be much fun. It would just mean he'd have to return to being his usual grouchy self. This way he knows love and affection and finally has the kind of life he should have had all along. The more I read of this paring, the more I like it. Meri is very blessed in her gift.

This is lovely. Your Luna is fabulous, and I really enjoyed reading their letters, especially the one where Snape says he can't be her friend because the other people he's called friend ended up dead. *sniffle* I was wondering all the way through if Luna was also going to become a portrait when she died, and yay! I'm really glad Severus finally got a happy ending. I enjoyed this a lot. :-)

Aww, perfect, perfect, perfect! What a wonderful romance, and so well done through and through. The portrait magic was great, and I loved how Snape interacted with Flitwick, and Albus, and the ghosts! And Luna! This is my favorite Luna!

Just wonderful, thanks!!!!!

this is a lovely little story. I love Severus' loneliness, his book club, the way he slowly falls in love with Luna and how she finds a way to join him in the end. Thank you for sharing it.

Of course I think of you when I perform clitoral massage.

That's just one example of the nearly everything Luna said that was just perfect. She's so straightforward and excellent a character. I rather wish sometimes that I could be like her in real life.

I adored Severus' letter writing. Luna's was, of course, great, but I loved his tone all the way through. And the sickle! *squee* I was wondering if perhaps being some manner of Muggle conduction theory that silencing/muffling charms wouldn't work. But of course she wanted him to know. Perfect.

I waited with Severus, tense in case something happened. Until I realised what would. I can't imagine a more perfect ending to a more perfect story.

So I sit here, the night after Christmas, with the sky just turning pink over the treetops and the birds singing in the distance and am so happy that I could share in such an excellent Christmas present. Thank you so much for writing this!

This story just... works. It is heartfelt, intelligent, engaging, hot, brilliant and so much more. Although not the best literary piece out there, I find that this story has the most heart and compassion and the best grasp of its characters.

I haven't left a review of the hundred other holiday stories I have read, but this just merits one. I think I may not be able to sleep until I congratulate whoever wrote this brilliant piece of fan fiction.

So, congratulations mystery author! The recipient is truly one lucky girl/guy!

Wow. That was... I'm not sure what to say. I loved the writing and the characterization, but I'm not sure what I think about Luna dying to be with Severus. It rather took me by surprise. I'll have to re-read and think on it a bit...

This was a really intriguing exploration of what it might be like in a portrait. I really liked how Snape progressed into finding a "life" he could not only endure, but enjoy; there were so many poignant moments of loss and discovery. Especially how forgotten and neglected he would have been without Luna. And Luna was a delight as well, not just odd, but smart, an characteristic which is often neglected in Luna fic.

Ahh... Luna and Snape, I never would have thought it would work, but it did so beautifully, and I loved that you kept Luna, Luna. Every line she had was just so totally her. I love that she is always so upfront about things. If only we could all be so honest...

Thanks for a delightful story. When Snape is happy, I'm happy.

This is lovely, and so unique! I've never read a fic about the life of a portrait before, and all the little details here are so intriguing -- even without the great relationship between Severus and Luna here, I would have really enjoyed the story. :) Great job with Snape's POV and Luna especially is marvelous -- I especially liked the way she talked about sex so clinically. "I always think of you when I perform clitoral massage," had me cracking up over here. Great job!

wow, what a LONG read!

--he turned to the journal on his desk and, when he ascertained no one was traversing the corridor, he picked it up and smelt it.--

this was so squee! the first bits were SO SWEET!

i cant quite get my head around the ending though... the luna that came to him in the end isnt quite the luna who died, is it? its like a luna-clone with all luna's memories, but the real luna wont experience being with him (on account of her being dead) right? um... yeah. happy ending for him, but i cant quite decide if i'm glad for her as well. The painting for both of them was imbued with their memories, in Snape's case, up until near the end, and for Luna, all the way to the end, so the feelings each has in the painting is very real.

I'm glad you enjoyed at least the beginning of the story. Thank you for commenting.
