[info]mariem_1: Emma Roberts was driven from Twitter by Twilight fans

San Jose Mercury News:

This just in — some "Twilight" fans might just be a wee bit nuts.

Emma Roberts found that out this week. The 19-year-old actress and niece of Julia Roberts was forced to disable her Twitter account after receiving oceans of hate mail and even some death threats from "Twilight" fans after remarking on the "Tonight Show" that, on the great debate over who should win the heart of Bella (Kristen Stewart), she was on "Team Jacob (Taylor Lautner's character) rather than Team Edward (Robert Pattinson's). The remark was devoid of malice and was actually uttered in the company of Pattison, who chuckled and quipped, "You've just revealed yourself to have absolutely no taste."

Roberts later posted on Twitter that Pattinson in real life "was so nice" and joked that she was "slightly disappointed (that) his skin wasn't glittering." Then came the outpouring of cyber vitriol that forced Roberts to disable her Twitter account.

Reports on Friday said another issue might have contributed to the Team Edwards' collective wrath. The reports have it that Roberts is buds with, maybe dating, Michael Angarano, the actor who was Stewart's boyfriend before she started filming "Twilight" and reportedly took up with Pattinson. Team Edwards fans apparently hate Angarano. A lot.

Daily Mail:

One of the milder tweets aimed at Roberts was, 'Team Jacob? Ewwwwwwwww!!!!!'
Another fan wrote: 'If you came on Leno and had a beef with then you deserve what you are getting but if not I feel bad for you.'

Wow.

I kinda want to see this interview, but I don't like Leno that much. So conflicted.

It all happens at the beginning of the video, so you don't have to deal with much Leno.

Thanks!

I really liked their little exchange there.

Some of the comments to the video ore lovely,

Yes, I agree. She tried to conceal how impressed she was, but she just came out sounding like a rude bitch. How unclassy!

...

Twilight fans are such whores and bitches. So immature hating a girl for expressing her opinion. Go out,get a life and find a real boyfried instead of rubbing your dirty fishy smelling vaginas to pictures of a guy you will never end up with in your lives

...

She was simply rude and childish. I've seen several people who checked out her tweets and said there were only about 10 comments and no death threats. She walked on stage with an attitude. You can see by Rob's interview that he was as sweet as can be, talking about his family, taking time to dress up for the audience and his parents. She seems like she doesn't care who she tries to knock down to fulfill her own agenda. Never saw Rob get upset until her...she must be a charming girl.

...

She is dating Kristen's ex-boyfriend...you know the Angarano guy. That's the reason why she acted so stupidly. It wasn't as if she was going to let that opportunity pass... I am actually surprised she didn't do or say something nastier. She is now in a world of shit with his fans...deservedly so...what a cotton candy brain...lmfao!

...

bitch-slap her repeatedly, please...that way the cobwebs in her brain would get dislodged...maybe...hahahaha

...

Emma is on team loser.

...

She was hands down rude from the get go. And, no, the Team Jacob comment itself was not rude but her rather dismissive, belittling attitude towards Rob. She's dating Kristen Stewart's ex boyfriend Michael Angarano (the one she dumped for Rob Pattinson) so I guess she felt she had to make a stand for Mike.

...

Emma has an attitude.

Robert was fun in the interview talking about his Dad and being humble.

Emma wanted to make a name for herself by being rude to Robert.

She is only famous because of her relatives, as we all know. She is average at everything.

...

she's kinda ugly.... jus saying

...

Agreed. Even if you don't like someone you don't do that on TV in front of people. It's just inappropriate. I would have expected more from Emma.

...

His comeback was so appropriate and precious. Loved him for that. Alot of people on here don't seem to think she insulted him...that it was all a joke. Pictures from commercial break show the tense situation.

What's sad is that she started this because Rob's current girlfriend (Kristen) dumped Michael (Emma's NOW boyfriend) for Rob. It seemed like Emma got OVERLY involved in the beef Michael has with Rob and took it on national tv. Classless!

This is why I don't read YouTube comments.

[info]feenix

What? Those comments are completely non-misogynistic! They're just talking about those filthy cunts that wallpaper their room with Jacob posters and schlick themselves all over pictures of TLau's abs!

Including that stupid Roberts spawn whore!

...God, now I feel dirty just for typing that. Excuse me - I'll be taking a shower. Again.

I'd also suggest that YouTube commenters stay classy, but really - YouTube comments are already one of the classiest forums on the Internet to begin with

You know, it's sad that RiffTrax's mockery of Twifans is actually less of a mockery and more of...an accurate portrayal.

Bill: So, what, Kevin--you're saying you think there's a movie out there that is deeper and full of more epic romance and meaning than Twilight?
Kevin: Uh--yeah, that's what I'm saying--
Bill: THEN YOU AND ALL YOUR PETS SHOULD DIE!!!!!

But why disable the account? Couldn't she just not check her @ replies?

Sun, Jun. 20th, 2010 10:25 pm (UTC)

She isn't required to give her abusers a public outlet.

Sun, Jun. 20th, 2010 10:30 pm (UTC)
[info]poisonyoulove

One's @ page isn't public, though. The people bashing her would be doing it on their own profiles, which would then show up on her @ page.

What's the point of keeping it, though, if she can't use it for her actual contacts and fans?

Mon, Jun. 21st, 2010 12:27 am (UTC)
[info]poisonyoulove

Huh. It honestly hadn't occurred to me that any celebrity would want to talk to the fans. I avoid talking to them!

Mon, Jun. 21st, 2010 01:17 am (UTC)
[info]esclaramonde

I get the impression that there's a lot of celebrity/fan back-and-forth on Twitter. Although I don't use it myself, so I'm not entirely sure.

Mon, Jun. 21st, 2010 03:35 pm (UTC)
[info]adevyish

It generally depends on how famous/Twitter-dedicated the celebrity is. At some point there are just too many @ replies to deal with, but if a celebrity isn't that famous, they'll probably see everything. (I'm in figure skating fandom, where this is true of most skaters, and there have been some really horrid cases of 4th wall-breaking :x)

To be a bit more diplomatic than Ann, I think that giving them an outlet to direct their vitriol at would also be counterproductive.

It won't stop it, of course, but her online persona won't be linked to posts calling her a whore and worse. Why make it easier for people to bash you, if you don't want to deal with that, you know?

Mon, Jun. 21st, 2010 04:16 pm (UTC)
[info]deliciouschaos

The web version of Twitter does not notify you when you have an @ reply, but some clients will send you notifications including the text of said @ reply.

Especially since the books are done and we know FOR 100% SURE Bella ends up with Edward. YOU WON. LET IT GO.

(Anonymous): ALSO

Team Edward has proven that there is such a thing as sore winners.

Tue, Jun. 22nd, 2010 05:27 am (UTC)
[info]librarianmouse: Re: ALSO

Seriously. No ship in the history of fiction has been ground into the dirt as thoroughly as Jacob/Bella, but Team Edward still has to get butthurt at the very mention of such a blasphemous ides!

Mon, Jun. 21st, 2010 08:17 am (UTC)
[info]uldihaa

But are they winners? I mean, none of them are going to wake up tomorrow covered in bruises and feathers with an animated marble statue of a hot young and sparkly god next to them. So I'm thinking maybe there might be some resentment over that.

Or they're just crazy.

Seriously, what's wrong with being on Team Alice?

Mon, Jun. 21st, 2010 03:21 pm (UTC)

I didn't even think of this as an option! (I would have recommended "Team Tyler's Van," myself. Someone has that as an icon: "Because Bella likes getting bruised.") I could totally live with being Team Alice.

>>>Seriously, what's wrong with being on Team Alice?

Alice is too awesome for someone like Bella?
Other than that, *absolutely nothing* is wrong with Team Alice.

Mon, Jun. 21st, 2010 04:19 pm (UTC)
[info]cmdr_zoom

Alice is too awesome for this whole series, IMO. Which sometimes causes me to wonder what she's doing here, aside from being Bella's fashion consultant, wedding planner, support network and/or fairy godmother who takes care of everything for her so our "heroine" SMeyer just has to show up.

It's probably sad but the only part of this that surprised me was finding out that Emma Roberts is Julia Roberts' niece.

More surprising than the fact Eric Roberts (aka the Master) is Emma's dad?

Ah see him I had to look up, I'm not much of a Whovian. But I do recognize him from The Dark Knight!

[info]evilsqueakers

I've never seen him *as* the Master, but he's got the movie typecasting role down. He's been in like everything the past 20 years.
