Mission: LAZE Yesterday I did my last big splurge of the "reimbursement for moving" money; I went to Central Market. Central Market is Dangerous. Even moreso than Whole Foods. I go there very rarely, because it is such a menace. But, oh, I got some wonderful things! Armenian string cheese! Mesquite-grilled canteloupe gelato! Rose-flavored apple juice! Blintzes and latkes and chili-pecan caramels! And I found Nabisco Famous Wafers, so I can make some motherfucking icebox cake!!! Also, Peruvian pink salt and Hawaiian lava black ssalt (from the bulk section, so just a tiny packet of each). The toiletries section is like walking into The Soap Box Company, but somehow I escaped unscathed. While waiting for my ride and on the trip back, I had a convo via texting with rehd_fawx. My first texting conversation! I don't understand how anyone can text and drive. I had a hell of a time of it as a passenger in a moving vehicle! Although I suppose it would be easier with a qwerty keyboard, but still! I got some shisha I'd bought from someone on the Hookah Pro forums, a 50g of Social Smoke Chai. I love their Cosmopolitan buut something in the chai flavor didn't agree with me and I wound up coughing a lot :( But today I am expecting goodies in the mail, and doing some serious relaxing. I've been going hard at the unpacking lately and made a lot of progress but it is very tiring. Current Mood: lazy |

*yaawwwwwn* Going to the grocery store this afternoon. Well, to the fancy one. Gonna be taking advantage of having a cell phone to call for an open return ride, yay! rehd_fawx and I were batting around an idea for a webcomic last night. If anything comes of it I will certainly let y'all know! We have a premise and characters in mind, which is a good start. And if any of you know how to obtain a copy of this... I felt guilty about not letting Molly have any patio time yesterday so I am letting her hang out there now. It is chilly so I have the door open just enough for her come in. I really need a chair for the patio. Sitting/lying on the bare wood is killing my back! I might spend some of my refunded deposit on this chair. Any opinions? I think it looks comfy. I'll believe it when I see it The "eviction" matter is, at least in theory, all settled. According to my counselor at HACA, the complex hasn't turned in all their paperwork. According to the head honcho at the office, my file didn't say that I was Section 8. But I have been told that no actual eviction proceedings are currently forthcoming and the matter is now, as it is supposed to be, between HACA and Ashbury Parke. My brief peace is still disrupted, though. It'll take me a while to calm down from this. Current Mood: cranky |

Because I can never be at peace, dammit I just got a fucking EVICTION notice for non-payment of rent.
I have proof that I paid my share - the checks were cashed. I have no fucking clue what is up with HACA. I called the office, they're "looking into it".
Dammit... just when things were starting to go right...

OH THANK GOD I just got the verdict from Social Security. My SSDI isn't getting cut off! Oh god yes, I was so fucking worried. To further gild the lily, I got a check from HACA reunding my rent for half of February and my security deposit. So, I won't be suddenly without income, and I have a nice little bonus! Also, I called asking for an application to Auustin Energy's LITE-UP TEXAS program (a discount on electricity during the summer for us po' folk) and they sent me five copies. LOLWHUT? The only damper on the day is that I am waiting on UPS and thus can't go out. Which is sad since it is a lovely day after two icky ones. Well, I had some patio time with the girls. Molly was pleased. Crisis averted! So, today has been nice indeed. Didn't sleep much, so I got to hang out in chat for a few hours and socialize. Gotta keep ties with my friends tight, after all! Around 10:30 I headed out to make my way to The Surfing Hookah. Longass wait for the 325. Timing and clothing choice turned out to be interesting, though. I was wearing my RHPS shirt and a woman about my age stopped me, asking where I'd gotten it (sadly, years ago and secondhand then). We chatted for a while. Turns out she's lived in Austin a few months and hasn't been able to get to any of the cool places, hadn't really done any exploring. I gave her a few suggestions and we exchanged phone numbers. It was another wait for the 1. With all the transfering, waiting, and the conversation, it was nearing noon. That was fine, they were just gearing up! The people were super nice. I got a puka shell necklace and a lei right off. When I entioned some brands I like that I'd probably buy if they carried there for a reasonable price, they wrote the names down (Fumari and Fantasia, if you're interested). There were some people to chat with (there was one guy with a really interesting story about ayahuasca) and it was just after I won one of the half-hourly raffles (a pipe) that I realized my phone was missing! So I fretted a bit the rest of the afternoon, but tried not to let it spoil my day. Tried different kinds of shisha, was presented with a VIP card (10% off everything!). Used the card to get 10% off some shisha. Won another round of raffling (some more shisha this time). Hung out a little longer, then decided to get home to log on to the Virgin Mobile site to get my phone replaced. Checked the mail on the way; my maneki neko toothbrush cup and soapdish had arrived! The Eee hadn't finished booting when there was a knock on the door. Startled the hell out of me, to be honest. It was T., with my phone! Someone had found it and called him, and he'd gone and picked it up and brought it to me. Words can not express how awesome my relief was. What a fantastic thing to do! So now I'm chilling on the porch, letting Molly have some outside time, giggling at Anya's cautious explorations and Hecate's nervous slinking around. Soon there will be sampling of new shisha. Smitten! So in the interest of spoiling myself rotten, I treated myself to a new mp3 player. A little trouble at first; I spent a while on the phone with tech support (and I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing, the guy had a distinct Indian accent and it called up all the stereotypes of outsourced tech support, but for all I know it could have been a guy with an Indian accent in New Jersey) and it was a simple enough fix (I just needed to upgrade Windows Media Player). When it asked for a name for it during setup I had to think for a moment (being the sort who likes to give devices Meaningful Names; my desktop is Teatime, my Eee is Kusuri-uri, and my phone is Satou, after all) and decided on Nailbunny, since it will be the friendly voice in my ear. Filled it up with music while it was charging. I'm giving it a test run right now and I am really pleased. It's really light, the earbuds are the first I have ever found comfortable, and the sound is good. Nailbunny, Satou, and I are going on an Outing today. It's the grand opening of the Surfing Hookah. Free lunch, live music, shisha tasting, and chances to win stuff? On what Weatherunderground promises will be a nice day? Yeah, that'll drag me out of the house, I guess. Gonna wear my old RHPS tshirt and jeans, and Womb Furie from my also new-arrived BPAL Lupercalias. I finally found some of my CDs yesterday, buried under two other boxes in a huge box. I totally think those movers were being deliberate assholes. Molly has a new game. It is called Chase. It is simple. When the door is opened, she makes a break for it, and I have to catch her. If I have my hands full, that means I have to set my things down, which gives her a head start. Last time, I had to run down the stairs after her, and when I caught up with her she went back up the stairs, and once I caught up with her there, she tried to run down again! But that's when I caught her. By the time we'd been in the old place this long she'd stopped trying to get out. Clearly she thinks outdoors here is more worthwhile. And really, it makes me a little sad to have to bring her inside when she clearly loves being outside so much. I've promised her a nice long rest on the patio soon. Tomorrow, if it doesn't rain. DANGER DANGER DANGER! Four stores in a row: Bookwoman (a feminist bookstore), The Surfing Hookah (guess), Half Price Books (used books) and Goodwill.
Oh, so dangerous!
The clerk at Bookwoman was adorable and eager to be helpful, and I found some things I couldn't resist. The people at the hookah store were very friendly and handed me a flyer for their grand opening the weekend (Yep, they're gonna drag out on a Saturday. It sounds like fun!). They have some brands I haven't tried (HookaH HookaH, including the single-shots, and Social Smoke), so I will have lots of things to try; I got single-shots of clove and chai and a 50g of butterscotch. Half Price Books has an astonishing selection of manga these days (but nothing I was looking for). Most of their DVDs are still ludicrously overpriced, but I did find a copy of EATING RAOUL for $7. The cashier commented nostalgically on it. Odd to realize how long ago it came out. Goodwill was a wash, but
So now I just have to decide what flavor to smoke first.

In which I am stupid and my cats rule. Apparently in my excitement over getting sushi last night, I only shut the door and didn't lock it. At some point the door swung open! Molly was just curled up on the landing enjoying the sun, and came in when I called her. Hecate hadn't set paw outside, but I soon realized that Anya had strayed outside to seek her... I went to head out to look for her and she ran inside as soon as I re-opened the door! So it would seem that my carelessness resulted in a chance for Molly to soak up some rays and a minor scare for Anya (I think she was more frightened that I was!). No harm no foul, I guess, but I'm shaken up that a moment of forgetfulness could have put my girls at risk. I never would have forgiven myself. Current Mood: relieved |

Ugh, headache. Went out yesterday, got tags made for the girls' collars with the new address and phone number. Found out that the groomers there only do dog grooming. Sucks, I was hoping to get Anya a lion cut for summer. Hit Target, found a copy of the complete run of THE RICHES for $20. Hot shit! Was thinking of trying out Mr. Tramps, but I went to the Hong Kong Supermarket instead, so dinner was a nice big BBQ pork bun and some coconut-peanut mochi I took a chance on (they were yummy!). Had a bit of depressive fit waiting for the bus (I've been skewing hypomanic lately) but seeing Hecate beside herself with glee over a can of Friskies made me smile; the girls seem to prefer it to Fancy Feast and it's cheaper too.
I was going to go out today, check out that new hookah place on Lamar, hit Goodwill, maybe have some sushi at Dokdoya, but I realized that even on a lovely day like today I just don't have the spoons to go out and about two days in a row. Yay for meds, right? So I'm watching The Riches and nursing a nascent headache.
And as I believe I mentioned, I had my landline turned off. It is now dead. I am completely cell-only. Brain tumor, here I come.

Not a completely fruitless day No bookshelving, but I did some unpacking, and found my shampoos and some other toiletries. I still haven't found my CDs and I don't think there are any boxes left I haven't looked in... really pissing me off! I have (had?) a lot of CDs, and I didn't rip all of them.
I got my TV converter box working, though. Actually watching TV shows on TV as they air is a huge novelty. And I found a channel that airs mostly cooking shows. PBS cooking shows, not Food Network ones, but still! And I can watch How I Met Your Mother (nice to see Alyson Hannigan is back to having red hair) and Big Bang Theory. I should be able to hook up the VCR, too.
I was able to sort out paying the electric bill online this morning, and the paper bill came in the mail. I might be able to qualify for a discount on "street services" because I don't have a car, and maybe some other breaks in the micellaneous fees too.
Also, my ThinkGeek stuff came. I now have skull-shaped caps on my keys and skull & crossbone shaped ice firming up in my freezer.
And, I threw out a bunch of trash and changed out the litterbox, and vacuumed off the mat under it. That little Bissel I got works great!
Wasn't sure what to have some lunch, so I ordered from Austin's Pizza again. Got a small with a alfredo sauce, onions, and cilantro. The large is a much better deal, so I've learned something. I think next time, pesto, artichoke hearts, and broccoli.
Either tomorrow or Wednesday will be a Day Out. I hope The Surfing Hookah sells some good shisha at decent prices.

Well, shit. I made a bad choice. I didn't have too much trouble putting together my smaller bookcases, and the one bigger bookcase I have is made the same way only taller, so a couple of tall bookcases would be fine as long as I paced myself and took lots of breaks, right? Wrong! These must be a different brand or something, because they are considerably more complex to assemble and not designed for one person to put together alone (at least one part in the manual said "this step requires two persons"). So much for getting at least one put together today. My head hurts and I am coughing and sneezing. I think I will take some trash out and maybe try and fiddle with the TV converter box some more and not worry about anything else for now. Current Mood: frustrated |

My weekend Saturday was goddessgoddess & T. day! We had yummy yummy dim sum ( rehd_fawx, I will have to arrange it so you have dim sum at some point!). I love me some dim sum and I always enjoy spending time with goddessgoddess and T. so it was really nice. I showed off my new phone, which is, like, the Yugo of cellphones but it does what I need it to do. Then we went to Walmart and I got So. Much. Stuff. Top-up cards for the phone, blank CDs, and a pair of assemble-yourself bookcases. I got everything on my list except ID tags for the cats, because the touchscreen on the engraving machine wasn't working. Oh well, I'll get some made up at PetSmart; I'm planning a Day Out later this week (I can bus to PetSmart, get the tags, deposit a check at BoA, bus to Lamar, bus to that new hookah place and BookWoman and maybe walk up to Half Price Books and Goodwill...) so it's not a big deal. We dropped some food off for one of goddessgoddess's kids and brought my stuff back; T. carried both fricken' bookcases up the stairs for me! I seriously, seriously neeed to take them to Dokdoya for sushi. During half price hours I can swing it, and it would be nice to be treating for a change. Investigating the bubble tea place in Chinatown Center would also be good (although I'm gonna do that one way or another, alone, with them, or with rehd_fawx next time she visits). After they left I went to check the mail and also to go to the office; the gate is now fixed and I needed to know the code! I also realized that a lot of moving of smaller bookcases would happen before I set up the new larger ones. As of now, I have moved three of the four smaller bookcases and made a space for the fourth, when I next feel energetic eough to take out all the books, carry the bookcae through the still-box-crowded room, wrestle it into place, then load all the books back in. But three out of four is good! I am hoping to get the last one done before I crash tonight; I want to put together at least one of the new ones tomorrow. Oh! goddessgoddess! I found the first book of the series that Bones is supposed to be based off of, if you want it. I also tried to set up the converter box so I could watch actual TV shows, but no dice. I guess I'll fuck with it later. I have the sneaking suspicion that I need a better antenna. Oh, and I tried delivery from a place in my new neighborhood. The prices were good and the person answering the phone and the delivery guy was good-natured, but the scallops with hot garlic sauce was mostly carrots and the moo goo gai pan was made of all dark meat (which reminded me of how wonderful it was to have a garbage disposal). Plus they don't have egg foo yung, which is my go-to dish. So I still need to find a Chinese delivery place. But honestly, even though I am only about half unpacked and still finding my bearings, I really like my new place. The only thing I could ask for is a washer and dryer. I never got my electric bill, I need to call Austin Energy tomorrow. That, bookshelving, and waiting on UPS... not a bad plan for what's forecast to be a rainy day. Ok. Gonna try to finish off that last bookcase, and get to sleep. Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: Coast to Coast AM |
