| HP and AU fics that gave me the creeps. I figured I'd go for creepy in honor of the season.
Halloween/Samhain is my favorite holiday hands down. After all this time I'm still just a little bitter my mother couldn't keep her legs closed just a few weeks longer so I could have my birthday on October 31st.
First on the creepy list: In the Closet by Michi Chu http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1496125/1/
One fairly long chapter Characters: Harry, Ginny, Ron and a surprise
I can't say much about this because it'll ruin the ending which is killer. Gave me the shudders for days. I think Ginny is somewhat OOC but not to such an extent that she's completely unbelievable. Very scary and deals with disturbing subject matter.
Second: The Children by Sam Vimes http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/story.php?no=190 Characters: Draco, Hermione, Ginny, Remus OC Set post war. Brings new meaning to the idea of watching what you say. Some references to a character not listed above going over to the Dark Side, canon character deaths, just generally creepy but very good.
Third: Just Words by Ayla Pascal http://www.thedarkarts.org/authors/aylapascal/JW.html
Post War, Ginny Weasley
Very creepy
A Nice Cup of Tea and a Lie Down by Bernice http://members.ozemail.com.au/~brussell/tea.htm
Hagrid, Harry
This one had me going for days. AU as it is...I could see it happening.
All these fics are relatively short and I can't get them out of my mind. | comments: 2 delusional shippers poked or Poke a delusional shipper |
| I'll rec one more, not because it's scary...it is, a bit but only a bit...but because it's short, it's a good'un and it made me cry.
With tears and everything.
Tales From the River House: Fever Dream by sam_the_storyteller http://www.livejournal.com/users/sam_storyteller/34816.html
Scroll down to read Fever Dream, though Russian Literature is a good story too. It just didn't make me cry.
One short chapter, slash references (no sex) Remus, Harry, Sirius
This is set in the Stealing Harry universe so you first have to understand SH is set in an alternate dimension. You second have to understand that Remus in the SH 'verse has dreams about the canon Potterverse.
Basically, Remus in the SH 'verse and Remus in the Potterverse become ill at the same time which allows canon Remus his only glimpse of what could have been.
Did I cry? Yes, I did. And I called Sam a bastard in my response for making me cry. | comments: 1 delusional shipper poked or Poke a delusional shipper |

| Cos it's now officially saturday (or has been for the past 19 hours, where I live), it's time for the weekly recs. Here are some really fuck-off wonderful ones I've read of late and if you don't like them then you have empty husks in the place of hearts.
Untitled satire, by fee_absinthe. For any Australians in the readership: what would happen if John Howard applied to be a Death Eater. Funny, clever, erudite and just great reading even if you know nothing about Australian politics. If you do know about it, then you'll love it even more.
Hair of the Dog by Lacylu42. An excellent sad R/S fic set in *gasp* America with a *gasp* American original character, and damned if he isn't the best OC you'll ever read. One of the first fics I read in fandom, and still one of my favourites.
Stripes, by orangecrush. Another sad R/S set immediately after the murder of the Potters. Very short, but very good.
Eau de Hermione, by Briana Rose, is probably the only R/Hr fic I have ever been able to stomach. Her fic 'Werewolves are Not Popular Dinner Guests' was actually the first fic I read upon coming into fandom, and it made my brain explode a couple of weeks later when I found out she was fifteen when she wrote it. All the peripheral characters and how she handles them is fantastic, but the real stars are Ron and Hermione, and she does them both justice.
I think that's enough reading material for now. They all have the Gun seal of approval, so you know they're all awesome. | comments: 4 delusional shippers poked or Poke a delusional shipper |
| Breaking the line of creepy fic recs, here's some good crack. All rated PG or lower.
How To Go Trick or Treating Yukito and Nakuru take a bunch of kids trick-or-treating. Bonus xxxHOLiC characters appear. And pissed!Yue in a bunny costume.
Christmas Nightmare Written for a challenge. Yeah, it's Christmas, but Clow won't stop quoting The Nightmare Before Chrismas, so I thought it would fit.
I had another, but the author would prefer to go back and fix some language errors first. | comments: Poke a delusional shipper |

| My preference of fics is quite weird, but you'll have to deal with it. I can promise you that I know some awesome stuff, though.
Kindred A great Remus/Luna ficlet. And no, it's not pedophilia in any way. The story is sweet and sad. Also it has implied bohemian!Ginny in it, which makes my inner hippy girl go 'squee'.
Initimidation A one-shot fanfic written by my LJ buddy. It's quite fanon and AU, and there is dark!Harry in it. The style is very unique, and the ficlet itself is adorable.
Sailing The Dark Ship Draco/Ginny fanfic, which doesn't defy rules of canon at all. Characters are wonderfully IC, and nothing else is wrong. I recommend it to both fans of this ship and those who aren't. It takes place in Draco's seventh year, so it's spoilerific to those who still haven't read HBP. The fic is still in progress, yet only the last chapter is to be posted.
Chance Encounters One-shot with a different take on the first meeting of the future Golden Trio. Sweet, short story by Arabella at SQ.
Not as a Last Resort and Getting the Point Another two stories by wonderful Arabella only this time they are R/Hr all the way. Both of those have illustrations posted at Marta's art website.
The Man in St. Mungo's Remember the werewolf bitten man that was at St. Mungo's when Order and the kids visited Arthur? Well, this is a story focussing on him, when Remus decides to talk to him. Great reading when you have free time.
Summon the Lambs to Slaughter This involves OC American transfer, and I'm guessing there might be Snape/that particular OC later in the fic or at least platonic and messed up relationship (I'm still at one of the first chapters), but fear not. The OC is far from Mary Sue. Warning: it is quite complicated to read this fic, yet I'm not sure whether it's only to me, since English is my second language, or not.
Can't you tell I have a thing for one-shots? XD | comments: 1 delusional shipper poked or Poke a delusional shipper |
