| If he wants fantasy and mystery, why doesn't he just read the dozen or so Terry Pratchett books dealing with precisely that? Start with "the Truth", which is close enough.The Harry Potter fantasy genre fans believe the plot of Half Blood Prince has Dumbledore, the most intelligent wizard ever born, assign to a 17 yr. old teenager the almost impossible job of saving the world alone with no backup or support. 1. Yeah, that's almost as silly as the greatest wizard known to existence telling a midget to go miles into an enemy's kingdom and throw a ring down a volcano in order to save the world with almost no assistance whatsoever OH HAI WAIT.

Well clearly, Tolkien was just as much of a hack as Rowling is. Everyone knows that Tolkien originally intended for RotK to end with Gandalf having kept the ring the whole time, and using it to bitch-slap Sauron while Frodo had him distracted. All that stuff about the Ring corrupting? Aaaaaall designed to throw Frodo off the trail. Oh, and Frodo and Sam originally had babies together.
