Subject:Rewriting DH so Snape Saves the Day!
Time:10:06 pm
[info]oryx_leucoryx rambles on about Snape, ded from snake, and the Elder Wand.

It actually read rather reasonably IMO, but the part that made me guffaw was this:

Harry arrives at Hogwarts to search for the Ravenclaw Horcrux, Voldemort prepares for attack on the school as in canon, except he does not attack Severus. Severus escapes so as not to have to fight the teachers nor open the school to Voldemort and sees Nagini under protection. He sends the doe Patronus to call Harry to an encounter where he tells him all, including Harry's status as Horcrux, Harry explains to Severus about the other Horcruxes and where they stand. Harry and friends take care of the cup and diadem, while Severus remains hidden. Then Harry and Severus have to tackle Harry, Nagini and Voldemort. I think their best chance is if Harry goes to offer himself with Severus accompanying him disillusioned, or perhaps Severus brings Harry as his 'prisoner'. (Perhaps it would have helped to have more support, but with only Ron and Hermione knowing anything about Horcruxes I can't imagine Harry and Severus being able to convince anyone else that Harry's voluntary death isn't the result of another act of treachery by Severus. I doubt Ron could be convinced, and I can't see Harry involving Hermione but not Ron. At most Harry would tell friends about Nagini.)

Once again, Snape gets elevated to co-author of Voldemort's destruction. Note how [info]oryx_leucoryx completely glosses over a great deal of arguing, stress and tension in that little 'tells him all' part. *rolls eyes*

And get a load of the "Nagini bites Harry and Sevvie rushes in to save the day" Option 2. *rolls eyes again*

And if you read the peanut gallery, you see the usual wailing and gnashing of teeth beginning to happen as they rail against his "cheesy death".

I twitch when fans refer to him as "Severus".

I know. It's one of those things where you just don't want to see it except in fanfic when it's told from a third person limited POV centered on him or Dumbledore.

And I have serious trouble doing that. Then, when re-reading, I discover that's it's really stupid to have a Snape PoV story refer to him as "Snape" all the time and have to change it. But my fingers twitch every time I write Severus.

Hey, in case you get this? I was wondering if you were the same cornedbee I knew a looong time ago. (I think so, since he liked Disney cats too) In any case, if you are, HI! It's the former HermioneRULEZ from Thinkpotter! Good to see ya!

Yes, I'm unique ;) Nice to see you again. It's been ages since I've visited TP. (Does it still exist?)

Me too. Then they call James "Potter," hahaha.

On that note, I also find it weird when fans call JKR "Jo." Even if she wants them to call her that.

I doubt she's given disgruntled entitlement whores permission to call her by her first name, though. I certainly wouldn't.

So close to Earth-logic, and yet so far...

That was exactly the sort of ending Snapefen wanted, and the fact that they did not get it is precisely the reason that they continue to whine about how horrible JKR is and how horrible DH was. They were all so convinced that Snape was going to be the real hero - and they continue to throw their tantrum because they were wrong.

I thought he might figure more prominently in the final outcome, but hey, it was Harry's quest and Harry's deed that was always the way it was really gonna go. I think younger readers would have been bitterly disappointed if anyone had really stolen Harry's thunder, and myself, I think their happiness as readers firmly outweighs that of deranged Snapefans.

They'd have been insufferable if that kind of ending had happened. Especially since they'd have gotten to dump all over Harry Potter, too.

PS. Apparently they're still insisting the prophecy is meant to encompass their woobie. *FACEPALM*

they rail against his "cheesy death

But he was a bitterly lonely man, whose life was ruined by his own mistakes. So his death was lonely and regretful, with a bittersweet touch - not bloody cheesy.

Snape's death and the way it was written was a surprise, and for my part, I like to pick up a book and get lots of surprises. The big Snape-at-the-death thing would have been the stuff of numerous fanfics, including my own crap.

Snape's own mistakes and bad choices killed him just as sure as Nagini did. JKR might as well have named the snake "Karma".

I tried reading that; honestly, I did.

But, like so many [info]snapedumb posts, I couldn't help but be reminded of a former friend who would get shitfaced drunk and call me up, wanting to discuss her ex-fiance, and their relationship, and how things could have been different, and all his failings in obsessive detail--three years after he'd ended it.

Jilted lovers who can't move on are some of the most tedious motherfuckers on the planet. Bitterly disappointed fangirls whose fantasies of their favorite character didn't pan out are just as bad.

Man, it would have taken forEVER for Snape to convince Harry (in between Harry trying to curse him most likely.) By the time he did, Voldemort would have taken over the school.
