Subject:When psibbons critiques a H/Hr fic...
Time:07:31 am
You know it's jumped the shark.

WARNING: The fic has graphic descriptions of underage sex. Do not click the link to the fic unless you can live with "what has been seen cannot be unseen". I had to quit reading and hit the reviews just to see what others have said about it 'cause I didn't want to find out what else the author had in store. For those who don't want to read the fic (fully understandable), what I gleaned is that the amount of Weasley bashing seems excessive and OTT.

The Real Us by Seel'vor has this review from pstibbons:

Best line: globule of tubercolotic sputum

It's a nice rant-fic, but really, it's pushing it. It would seem that nearly half the effort of Team Potter was spent on keeping up the charade to the Weasleys. And for what? Did the Weasleys really contribute anything to the battle? Would there really be that much dissension in the Order if the Weasels were let go? While it's fun to read all this post-war Weasley squirming, it seems too artificial.

I just died laughing. The link to that gem is here.

Remember, pstibbons isn't a Harmonian - he just worships Hermione.

This is true. I'm actually surprised he didn't asplode over the fact that Hermione wasn't frontkicking, or something. I didn't check to see if she wears a Pink Power Granger (TM angakkuq) outfit though.

I'm not sure I can even make myself read the underage sex. OOC!McGonagall and the terms "Man-Who-Won" and "Witch-Who-Was-With-Him" are hurting my brain. But if there's creepy sex to be had, then I will read it. For, as it says, the Greater Good.

How underage is this sex? Teenagers, or closer to eleven year olds? One's not nearly as squicky as the other. (I do not want to click on the link to find out.)

I think that fic violates ff.net policies - it's got a chapter that's all an Author's Note, and if it's got graphic underage sex, I think it's against the rules.

Am actually surprised it hasn't been reported before now by other reviewers who expressed misgivings about it. To be fair to ff.n though I'm not sure a fic that gets reported ever actually gets acted upon by the powers that be.

They go through spurts of activity - I know people who were infuriated for years because they reported fics and nothing happened, and then suddenly people were reporting fics and they were deleted in days.

Hello Pot? This is the Kettle. You're black.

While it's fun to read all this post-war Weasley squirming, it seems too artificial.

As compared to pstibbons' Weasley bashing which makes perfect sense and plays very naturally and in character. Must be all the sexual assault that he throws in. Yeah.

Bwahaha, I know. pstibbons critiquing a fic like this, when he writes equally bizarre sex acts and completely ruins Ron's characterization in the process, is what made my jaw drop and then as I recovered, I died laughing.

OK, looking at Seel'vor's profile it is clear that he (yes "he" - he mentions that his name is Steve" and that he is 28 years old) is yet another disgruntled Hermione fanboy:

Ron and Hermione. How in the name of all that is good would Hermione, the smartest witch in her generation, end up with Ron, a goof with the emotional range of a teaspoon, and an intelligence equal to my sock draw (always bloody empty, dammit). I mean... come on. It just wouldn't happen, would it? Hermione's not that stupid. (Unless I'm feeling vindictive, in which case...)

As such, my fanfics are primarily H/Hr (As it should have been!)

She should have been with Me! Me! MEEEE!

Well, so long as he works out his issues in fanfic where he won't hurt anyone...

Yeah. It's kind of disturbing how much these Harmoanian (Or just plain weird fans of Hermione) male fanthings make their fics revolve around excessive abuse of Ron's character.

One has to wonder how much of it is, as you say, that they are fantasying the idea of them dating Hermione Granger, doing so in the guise of writing Harry/Hermione, since, after all, Harry is the hero of the series and therefore "acceptable" for Hermione.

Also makes you wonder just how fans of Harry Potter can feel so bloody entitled to the point of writing inappropriate content involving the characters. This fic wouldn't be half as skeevy as it is if the author had (see other comments for details) removed strange sex scenes and raised the age to fourteen or so at which they began shagging. Most fics I've seen involving teenage sex in the HP fandom (throw a stone and you'll hit one, it seems) usually have the characters at around that age or higher.

You know, I always hear "OMG, Snape is so misunderstood" and "OMG, Draco's just misunderstood!" But out of all the characters, I think the most misunderstood (in the fandom, anyway) is Ron. Which is odd, because I thought all his neuroses were spelled out quite nicely, and made him a better character because of it. But it seems like people totally miss the point, and that's sad.

But then, missing the point is what this fandom does best, is seems. ;)

Oh dear sweet fuck, it has the immortal line:

A single tear dropped out of her eyes, making it’s way slowly down her cheek.

This is good, though: Giving his patented Death Glare™ to Ron, Snape turned his attention to Harry. Sadly one of the few bright moments in the whole fic. But what can you say to a line like: The head of an Ancient and Noble house should be with a strong, beautiful pureblood witch, not some mousy little bookworm Mudblood like Granger. ... Harry Potter was the property of Ginny, while the bookworm belonged to Ron. That was the order of things, and she’d put it right.

And... the sex... oh God, the sex. There's even a scene where they do it while Hermione's still in semi-cat form after the Polyjuice fuckup in Second Year. Harry Potter Furry Paedo sex. FUCK, WHERE'S THE FUCKING BRAINBLEACH! Don't go there, for the love of God don't.

Oh, and remember the bit in which Ron walks out on Harry and Hermione when they're travelling all over the countryside? If nobody had yet made it clear to me what a "bashing fic" is, this would do it very nicely:

"He's gone..." She leapt up, her hands pumped into fists. "Yes!"

Harry stared at her, bemused. "What?"

"Don't you get it, Harry? The fucking waste of blood and organs has gone!" Hermione was gleeful, then started tugging at her shirt. "For months we've had to tone down the affection. Now, get your kit off, Potter. I want the mother of all shags tonight."

Okay, I was avoiding reading past the first chapter, and especially reading any of the pedo sex, but if that's the way he decided to do it I've got to read it. Just so I can say I did.

>Pursuant to the Berne Convention,

Well, this is obviously going to be hilarious. I mean, how many fanfic authours have a swelled enough head to invoke the Berne Convention?

>Author’s Note: Several aspects of the magical world are different in the fanfiction I write. The currency situation is one. As such, the currency valuation in any Seel’vor fanfiction will be as follows:

WHY. Why would you even need to do that? And the entire first chapter is a disclaimer, an authour's note, and a foreword. I wonder how they can make out the keyword with their head up their own colon.

>all for some nebulous ‘greater good’.

The safety of the Wizarding and Muggle Worlds is "nebulous"?

>considering that love was supposed to be ‘the power the Dark Lord knows not’?

WHOOSH.

>Super!Ginny

I love how they're trying to apply logic to teenage romance.

>He’d been out of his mind with concern over Fred, but when the Healers at St. Mungo’s had declared that he would live, he’d grabbed the matron and kissed her passionately. Blushing like a bride, he’d been chased out of the hospital by the matron’s irate husband.

George as Jack Harkness is an interesting concept, but I don't really feel it's appropriate for this sort of fic.

>She would be his. Oh, yes... she would be his.

Did he cackle and rub his hands together, too?

>“Harry... damn, it’s good to see you!”

And that's where I stopped reading.

That's the first place I stopped reading as well. I mean, McGonagall does not talk like that. Ever.
