Subject:R/Hr or death? Death, plz
Time:01:48 pm
[info]guardians_song posted a Snape/Hermione drinking game. Harpsi-thing[info]harpsi_fizz arrived with "R/Hr or death? Death please" icon and shared her thoughts on Ron/Hermione and R/Hr shippers:

The first time I read the books, I was like "Oh God... oh, God, she's going to be cliche and put those two together, isn't she? Oh, fuuuuck..." And from there on in, I felt as though I was pounded over the head with R/Hr.

I mean, the thing that drove me bonkers was that they had nothing in common as far as interests went and that there is no way in hell they would be even remotely compatible in real life. What do they talk about after Harry and Hogwarts? If I were given one common interest, I'd accept it. I honestly would. Now, some fan tried to palm this one- "They both hate Voldemort". Rather than watch my blood trickle from my ear with that one, I'll move on to my next point- the fans.

I hate to say it, but I also learned to hate R/Hr after watching how the R/Hr fans behaved. I tired to get answers from them as to why I ought to like the pairing (for I didn't want to hate it!) and all I got back was a endless stream of "It's so obvious!" and "Go re-read!" did not tell me what the appeal of that couple was other than "Hurp durp, I too stupud tuh think so I just like cuz it gon happen hurp durp".

Then there was the cruelty. Watching them bully with their fingers in their ears and make fun of the H/Hr shippers who were clearly just the underdogs and the shat on made me sick. Watching them try to paint all H/Hr shippers as stupid for liking what they liked, taking uncalled for pot-shots and just behaving like assholes made me really hate the pairing. Especially on JournalFen.

So the fans plus how unrealistic it was, plus the lack of variety, plus having it shoved in my face at every turn has got me literally saying Death Please. I'd rather Ron, my favorite character of all time, die than have to sit through R/Hr.

And yet I find solace in Hugo, whom I am planning on torturing. No offense, by the way, if you are an R/Hr fan. I know on a practical level that not all of the fans are unreasonable or stupid, but it always gets in my mind just a bit. Like... a tiiiny sand grain sized idea of it.
***
Yes, torturing Hugo. Drew a picture of him with a friend once and decided that I rather like the clueless idiot. Planning on a series called "Hugo Weasley's Diary" in which we see life through poor Hugo's eyes. He's so confused as to why daddy and Mr. Malfoy often visit with one-another at home and why they fish but never catch anything.

Please, Hr/R is no more cliché than any other popular ship in HP.

Is Harpsi the one who used to go around acting all innocent and naive when dropping in to troll random canon shipper's journals?

Oh, and we made fun of people acting like idiots, not for being H/Hr shippers. Just like we have made fun of H/G shippers, H/L shippers, Zutara shippers, Kataang shipper etc. (Please note, I fall into a couple of those categories). It's not our fault if 1)The H/Hr shippers took such an exceedingly long time to wank behind locked journals, when the other shippers caught on pretty fast. And 2) Seemed to wank the hardest and most offensively.

Possibly. Although there are others with the same MO. Harpsi can be distinguished from the others by the proclaimed love of slash at some point in the posts, which is apparently supposed to make OBHWF-shippers' heads explode or something.

yeah the opposites attract cliche is no more used than the best friends falling for each other cliche... wait a tic, Ron and Hermione are best friends, LOL, its a double-cliche, YAY!

Persecute Harmonys? Is that nit kidding? The ship that ragged on the most was the H/G ship initially until HBP, then came the wank and Fandom Wank knows no loyalty other than the wank. If you wank, they mock and poke fun and man did some of the Harmonys keep them going for over a year...

Like Harry/Hermione isn't far more cliche--the hero and the most prominent female character getting it on is waaaay more cliche than the hero's two best friends getting together.

What I want to know is, what does this have to do with the OP's original post about a Snape/Hermione drinking game? Way to take a thread and make it all about you, harpsi_fizz. "That's nice. Hey guys let me tell you about my issues!"

To paraphrase Ben Franklin there are three things in life that are certain - death, taxes, and Harpsi-whatever showing up to spread off-topic spooge whenever possible.

Okay, few points here:

1) As I mentioned before, if there's any ship that goes waaay into cliche territory, it's Harry/Hermione--the hero gets with the most prominent female character. If anything, JKR was AVOIDING the obvious cliche.

2) Snape/Hermione is also solidly in cliche territory--fangirls shipping who they see as the most intelligent characters together (and often bashing Ron because he dares to like her). Not to mention that most Snape/Hermione shippers seem to be of the sort who see Hermione as a goddess (because they somehow manage to identify completely with her despite having nothing in common with her) and want to bang Alan Rickman.

3) Another "I hate the ship because of the fans" rant. Kind of a poor excuse, really. Articulating why you like something is often extremely difficult--especially Ron/Hermione, which was kind of a YMMV thing for a lot of people--but she's saying she hates the ship because the fans didn't explain it well enough?

4) Oh, wait, the "persecution" card. Look, the Harmonians were and are so infuriatingly smug and high-and-mighty that they practically "persecute" themselves.

5) "But I like Ron..." Okay, then why do you hate the thought of him getting the girl he's clearly liked at least since the second book? And why do you apparently relish the idea of "torturing" his son?

Stay classy there, [info]harpsi_fizz... nothing like trying to make people out to be morons to try and win an argument.

Then again people like [info]harpsi_fizz usually try to make Ron look like a complete moron in fanfic as well to justify pushing the SS/HG, HP/HG or DM/HG pairing they swoon over because the actors are just so hawt. (Such as pstibbons's pink power Granger outfit fetish as an example of what he thinks is appropriate to convey the sexiness of Hermione Granger)

Sigh, Harry Potter fandom never seems to cease propagating the crazy (and usually when you least expect it, too).

Just for the record, interests Ron and Hermione share:

1)solving mysteries

2)arguing (It is an interest, and they love doing it, and there's no one better to do it with that each other)

3)House-elves (hee!)

4) chess (Or more accurately, Hermione trying to beat Ron at chess)

5) Fighting muggleborn/halfblood oppression

6) Breaking rules

7) Did I mention arguing? Teasing? Bickering? Debating? Just in general challenging each other? Because whether it's chess or fighting Voldemort, here are two people who love a challenge, and what better challenge do they find in sparring with each other? Here are two people who love to talk, love to argue. This is HOW THEY ENTERTAIN THEMSELVES. Hermione can't get in an argument with Harry. He either gets super CAPSLOCK! or just avoids confrontation. But she does love butting heads with Ron as a pasttime.

I mean, what interests does Hermione share with Harry either? We see them doing things friends do, hanging out at Hogsmeade, solving mysteries, discussing things. It's not like Hogwarts is where you go to the movies and discuss your mutual love of sci-fi. We see what these kids do in their spare time, we see that they share interests. We see where the chemistry come from. And Ron and Hermione have tons of shared interests, the main one being that they like going at it. Deal with it.

Grrrrrr, the person who engages Harpsi-whatever actually says this:
I think part of it might be that Rowling kind of delegated Ron to goofy sidekick. . .

I'm gonna sit on my hands, because otherwise I will unfunny all over the damned place, but I will say this:

ROWLING DIDN'T MAKE RON A GOOFY SIDEKICK. SHE MADE HIM AN INTELLIGENT, TALENTED, COURAGEOUS AND LOYAL SIDEKICK. STEVE EFFING KLOVES MADE RON INTO A GOOFBALL COMIC RELIEF SIDEKICK.

No matter how cliche Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny are, they're not as cliche as Harry/Hermione.

I have nothing against any shipper who ships for fun and has different preferences than me, but if they make up elaborate theories and are batshit insane about it, yeah, I'm going to mock them. This includes anyone who has the same ships I have, whether they end up being canon or not.

Why mess with little Hugo? What did he do besides be the son of goddess!Hermione and that hell-spawn Ron? Oh right.

Wait a minute...a Harmonian who actually admits she saw signs of R/Hr from the first time she read the books???

That's gotta be a slip, right? Because last time I checked, they were all horribly mislead by JKR who RUINED the books by throwing R/Hr together at the last minute while all the signs had been pointing at H/Hr up until HPB.

Watching them bully with their fingers in their ears and make fun of the H/Hr shippers who were clearly just the underdogs and the shat on made me sick.

What did you expect? Honestly. Canon shippers always make fun of fanon shippers, in all fandoms. It's not about being a "bully" (ffs XD) but more about having a good time teasing other fans. That's just how things roll. Don't like it? cry some moar.

Watching them try to paint all H/Hr shippers as stupid for liking what they liked, taking uncalled for pot-shots and just behaving like assholes made me really hate the pairing.

Well it's not our fault that every Harmonian BNF is retarded. We know there are sane Harmonians, we just like to mock the stupid ones.

And yet I find solace in Hugo, whom I am planning on torturing. No offense, by the way, if you are an R/Hr fan.

No offense? Really? XD

And wanting to torture a character just because you don't like his parents' marriage just proves how retarded you guys are.

Planning on a series called "Hugo Weasley's Diary" in which we see life through poor Hugo's eyes. He's so confused as to why daddy and Mr. Malfoy often visit with one-another at home and why they fish but never catch anything.

Let be get this straight;

Hero's best friends hook up with each other = CLICHE

Hero hooks up with his female friend since childhood = NOT CLICHE

>underdogs

I wonder how many people remember that sometimes underdogs are underdogs for a reason?

>unrealistic

Compared to, say, wizard school?

>the lack of variety

This ain't a frakkin' Frito-Lay variety pack, lady, move along.

>I know on a practical level that not all of the fans are unreasonable or stupid, but it always gets in my mind just a bit. Like... a tiiiny sand grain sized idea of it.

I see. How long have you been an oyster?

Okay, now I have a lot of pairings in fandoms that I dislike, even loathe. But I don't think I would rather die than have any of them be canon. Just sayin'.

Back in my day, all we had James from Pokemon, with only a few hints of his homosexuality and nobody to ship him with and we were greatful to have him.

I wish I could go there and post the manga scan of James hugging a pregnant Jessie...

LOL, I love it when hardcore, serious-business-type shippers try to denounce other ships as "cliche." Especially the fanfic writers, who have a tendency to add more cliches to their ship than what would be in canon.
