Subject:"100 Reasons to ship Draco/Ginny"
Time:02:27 pm
(Sorry if this has been posted before :P)

I was curious about why people at Portkey have Draco/Ginny as one of their "official" ships, so I went looking for their D/G forums, and found this list.

I've selected the most lulzy reasons out of the lot to avoid the tl;dr.

- It's like Romeo and Juliet, without the crappy ending.

- It's about time the Dragon gets his fair maiden (Draco meaning 'Dragon' & Ginevra meaning fair/beauty)

- The colors green (Slytherin) and red (Gryffindor) remind us of Christmas.

- Because we also get the chance to see lots of hilarious Blaise and Pansy.

- because you would have to be mad not to ship them

- Because Slytherins and Gryffindors going together is helping house unity.

- because Blaise & Pansy were born to make Draco and Ginny be together, no matter what it takes.

- Because D/G fic invairably has a huge quality increase from D/Hr and H/D fic.

- Because H/G and Dransy are too predictable!

- There's so many different types of people that support it -- Harmonian and Heron, In-Canon Toad Flamer and In-Canon Chocolateer, people who like OOC Blaise & Pansy and people who don't...

- Because Draco's wit comes out best when paired with a Weasley. (It's a FACT!)

- I think D/G are good together because it makes ron really angry and keeps him busy going afer Draco and keeps him away from Hermione. Anything to keep ron away from Hermione is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

- The thought of D/G having lots of pink haired kids is a cute idea *you know white hair mixed with red gives you pink! dang been watching too much anime lately*

- I like the dynamic that the fanfic writers for the D/G ship have for their stories, they way they have Draco and Ginny play off eachother is really interesting and makes for a good read.... as long as they are all still fully H/Hr compliant so I can read them of course.

- Because we're the CC ship least affiliated with the whole plagiarism scandal.

- Cause they're kids would look hot!

Of course, they didn't make it to a hundred. I'm guessing their brains exploded in the process.

Also, I love how most of their reasons have nothing to do with the ship itself. Way to prove the "awesomeness" of D/G...

*backs away from Portkey singing You give my ship a bad name*

Almost any thing on Portkey can be boiled down to three words : "We're owl exterminators."

If such a sensational ship like Draco/ginny (which is something like the muggle equivalent of the son of prominent KKK members dating the daughter of famouse civil rights activists) was made canon It would have taken the spotlights away from their precious Hermione and Harry and put the Weasley family there instead.
Plus I don't get it: they don't ship Hermione with Ron because he disparages her, yet they'll happily ship Ginny with a guy who abused her family and her far far worse than Ron ever did?
Why isn't Neville/Ginny their official "get Ginny out of their way" ship? since unlike D/G, they were good friends in canon.

Why isn't Neville/Ginny their official "get Ginny out of their way" ship?

Because Draco/Ginny has the advantage of showing off how evil the Weasleys are and why Ron is no good for Hermione?

Because Ginny is a whore, of course. As the school bicycle, she can be shipped with anyone (so long as it isn't Harry).

Draco/Ginny gets her out of the way, with the added benefit of letting them play with Leather Pants Draco.

By all means, watch more. As much as you like. As long as it keeps you away from Harry Potter.

Half these reasons are just to make Blaise/Pansy work...(which, btw, Blaise/Pansy? wtf?)

- because Blaise & Pansy were born to make Draco and Ginny be together, no matter what it takes.

That one doesn't even make sense. Both are Draco friends, neither has ever shown anything having to do with Ginny...and in fact, Pansy seems to loathe her with the fire of a thousand suns because she's an attractive, fun girl who boys seem to like spending time with and she's a pug-faced, mean girl who...boys tolerate because she's one of the few pureblooded girls left and their parents would disown them if they didn't (minus the pureblood part, who does Pansy remind you of!? lol).

So yeah...no, I don't see them trying to push that. Ever.

Am I the only one who never interpreted that story as a tragic romance? I always thought the moral was "stupid horny teenagers are stupid, just fire one off if you get dumped and you'll be fine"

...ok maybe not that exact moral.

I like the dynamic that the fanfic writers for the D/G ship have for their stories, they way they have Draco and Ginny play off eachother is really interesting and makes for a good read.... as long as they are all still fully H/Hr compliant so I can read them of course

Yeah, because making Harry and Hermione like anyone else other than each other would just TOTALLY ruin the chemistry of that other couple to the point where your brain would have an aneurysm to prevent you from gazing upon such filth.

Just for a little historical context — Portkey is old as fandom things go, and it goes back to an era where shipping cultures were very, very different. And once upon a time, Cassie Claire's Draco Trilogy was the biggest thing in fandom — and the primary ships were Harry/Hermione and Draco/Ginny. (And after Cassie made friends with some slashers, it was implied Harry/Draco as well.) Putting D/G together with H/Hr made perfect sense in the context of the pre-OotP fandom, before the demonization of Ginny had occurred, back when Ginny in canon had not yet become assertive and she was much more of a tabula rasa for people to project onto.

It seems pretty safe to speculate that if Portkey were being created post-DH, it would not have any positive ship for Ginny in it. It is amazing, though, how some shippers can despise a character with all their hearts as long as they are messing up their ship, but be perfectly happy with them as long as they're dating someone else — the Harmonians who were okay with Ron in Ron/Luna, the Loonies who were okay with Ginny in Neville/Ginny. OMG THIS IS THE WORST MOST DISGUSTING CHARACTER EVER unless they're with this person and then it's kind of cute!!

This one is actually true. At least, I know about H/Hr, R/Hr, and H/G fans who are also D/G fans, no idea about the Blaise/Pansy though.

(For me, though, D/G is my one least favorite pairing.)

This one actually isn't too bad (mostly because the others are completely brain-dead), if not for the fact that the same thing could be accomplished by any random Gryffindor/Slytherin pairing and has often been the rationale people have used for Harry/Draco, Harry/Pansy, Draco/Hermione, Ron/Draco, Hermione/Snape and Harry/Snape. But suuuuuure, it could apply to Draco/Ginny too...

Oh, come on, we thought the same people who came up with the Hippogriff of Lurve excuse for shipping H/Hr could do better than THIS?

Why can't they just be honest and say something like Reasons 1 - 100: It gets Ginny out of the way of Harmony. because that's all they give a crap about. Draco/Ginny is another one of their "dump" ships, which shows that they recognized the potential H/G even back then.

H/G is so predictable people complain that it came out of nowhere!

As for Dransy, well good thing that Draco marries Asteria Greengrass then, eh?

I actually like D/G (the only Draco/sextet ship I don't like is D/Hr though and also my brain now thinks of D/G as Dumbledore/Grindelwald) but those reasons are kinda sad. Shows what an afterthought Ron/Luna and Draco/Ginny are to them.

The colors green (Slytherin) and red (Gryffindor) remind us of Christmas.

Seriously now, how is this not the BEST reason for shipping any pairing ever? I'd sooner read silly fun reasons like this than dreck about Shakespearean romance any day of the week. Although I also quite like:

If D/G can make even Cassandra Claire's writing IC, it is logically a miracle!

- The colors green (Slytherin) and red (Gryffindor) remind us of Christmas.

Um...wow. And how does this not apply to every Gryffindor/Slytherin ship. I ship Snape/Lily, I suppose I should add it to my reasons for shipping them.

- Because Draco's wit comes out best when paired with a Weasley. (It's a FACT!)

....wit?

- Because we're the CC ship least affiliated with the whole plagiarism scandal.

Bringing up Cassandra Claire to support anything=FAIL. And how the hell is D/G least affiliated w/ plagiarism? It still has Draco in it, & a lot of the plagiarized lines/passages refer to or were given to him.

- because Blaise & Pansy were born to make Draco and Ginny be together, no matter what it takes.

'Cause I'll bet a guy who is implied to think Ginny is hot but also a gross muggle-sympathizer and a girl that likes Draco and despise Ginny would LOVE the idea of them together.

Actually, on that note, where is the Blaise/Ginny? It's a Hot Jerkass Slytherin/Random Heroine Who'd Hate Him ship that actually has a marginal canon basis! Though I'll admit that I might be just fishing for a Blaise pairing 'cause he's SUPER HOT.

- I like the dynamic that the fanfic writers for the D/G ship have for their stories, they way they have Draco and Ginny play off eachother is really interesting and makes for a good read.... as long as they are all still fully H/Hr compliant so I can read them of course.

Obviously. You guys do only like it as an excuse to shove Ginny elsewhere, after all!

You know, as much as I've always liked the idea of Hot Jerkass Slytherin/Random Heroine Who'd Hate Him ships, I've never found any that didn't completely trivialize the whole "Slytherins are racist" thing by making the heroine decide that this whole pureblood supremacy thing isn't that bad because purebloods are apparently like magical royalty and deserve it anyway. I thought the entire point of shipping characters with opposite values was to drag out some angry sexual tension and force them to confront their prejudices and reevaluate their hatred for The Other Side and make the villainous character struggle in conflict with the corrupt ethics they were brought up with and the reality they're beginning to face, but what do I know? :| After all, no one wants to pretend that a pretty villain could be WRONG. Apparently, they exist either to give your favorite leather pants-wearing stud (who is canonly a hilariously whiny twit with an ego the size of Mars, and actually entertains me this way) a cute girlfriend to hang on his arm, or to shove characters out of the way to make room for your OTP.
